Dirt Works begins sixth season as IMCA Eastern Region title sponsor

ORONOGO, Mo. – Modified drivers in IMCA’s Eastern Region enjoy title sponsor support by Dirt Works Race Cars for a sixth consecutive season. The Oronogo, Mo., chassis builder again provides a portion of the $6,000 point fund to be paid to top 10 drivers in the region encompassing IMCA tracks in New York, Michigan, Florida and Alabama. Dirt Works, owned by veteran driver Jerry Hoffman and a sister company to Hoffman Race Cars, has built championship-winning Modifieds since the early days of the division and first sponsored an IMCA region in 1996. The regional championship pays $2,500 this season. The runner-up earns $1,250, with $625 for third, $325 for fourth, $300 for fifth and $200 for sixth through 10th place. Wolla, Bowers score IMCA Modified wins at RPM’s Hughes Memorial Sunflower Classic 

HAYS, Kan. (March 30-31) – Defending national champion Jason Wolla and defending regional champion Steven Bowers Jr. were IMCA Modified winners at RPM Speedway’s season-opening Mike Hughes Memorial Sunflower Classic. Wolla started eighth and worked his way to the lead with 10 laps left in the Friday feature. Bowers bounced back from an opening night misadventure in his heat and checked out on everybody in the Saturday main. Both features paid $1,000 to win and both drivers were already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invita­tional ballot. James tops IMCA Modified opener at Cottage Grove

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (March 31) – Six months ago, Bricen James’ future in racing was an unknown. Saturday night, he stood in victory lane after winning the season-opening IMCA Modified feature at Cottage Grove Speedway. Craig Hanson was quick out of the gate and stayed in the lead until Collen Winebarger got past on lap four. Winebarger remained out in front for some time before he bicycled in turns one and two, allowing James to pass him via the inside line. James kept hold of first place but had to master restarts due to several cautions.  James kept all challengers in check and went on to collect the checkered flag.  It was an emotional triumph be­cause six months ago he nearly had a career-ending injury in a Sprint Car last September. John Campos got second, followed by Dustin Cady in third.

Hood handles IMCA Modified foes at 281

By J.M. Hallas STEPHENVILLE, Texas (March 31) – Brandon Hood took home the hardware in Saturday’s 20-lap IMCA Modified main event at 281 Speedway. Hood, who was running the bottom, got by early leader Jeffrey Abbey, who was up top, just be­fore halfway. From there Hood crept away for the win. “The bottom line was where it was at,” said Hood. “Abbey jumped out there pretty quick. He was a little tight and I knew that I had to be there whenever he made a mistake.” “You’ve got to be pretty patient when you run against those Abbey boys. (March 31) – In only his third appearance behind the wheel, Shane Sellers took the lead early and never looked back to capture the Sprint Series of Oklahoma presented by Smiley’s Racing Products/Hoosier Racing Tires Southwest victory Saturday at Enid Speedway. Gary Owens and Andy Shouse started on the front row for the 20-lap IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature with Owens taking the early lead over Shouse and fourth-starting Sellers. Sellers dis­posed of Shouse for the runner-up position one lap later and on lap three, took over the top posi­tion from Owens. The front pair ran one-two with Sellers unchallenged until lap 16, when Owens closed the cap and pressured the leader. Aztec returns to IMCA sanction with 3-year pact

AZTEC, N.M. – Promoter Mike Tenski is confident the return of IMCA sanctioning to his Aztec Speedway will bring more cars and more fans to the northwest New Mexico speedplant. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMods all return to the 3/8-mile clay oval while Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods are new.
