Dinsmore answers Summer Showdown questions

By J.M. Hallas PLEASANTON, Texas (July 18) – Greg Dinsmore answered all the questions in winning the Saturday Summer Showdown IMCA Modified feature at I-37 Speedway. The 20-lap feature saw Dinsmore getting to turn one first trailed by Ryan Doyon, A.J. Wernette, Talon Minten and Johnny Melancon alongside Logan Dinsmore. Following two early restarts, Doyon and Minten swapped the second spot before Minten powered around and closed on the leader. Minten showed him his nose once with Dinsmore adjusting to a middle groove and holding the top spot. At halfway, Dinsmore was running up on traffic giving Doyon the chance to close a six-car advantage in the waning laps. Dinsmore, a former track champion, got through traffic and kept Doyon at bay in taking the win. IMCA Modifieds to headline Shawano’s July 24, 25 Mid-Summer Classic shows

SHAWANO, Wis. – The two-day show coming up this weekend at Shawano Speedway is guaranteed to be a Classic. IMCA Modifieds race for $1,150 to win and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berths at Mid-Summer Classic shows Friday, July 24 and Saturday, July 25. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars chase $1,000 top checks while Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods race for $600 to win both nights. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and KMJ Performance, but no track points will be awarded. There is a $30 draw fee each night for Modifieds and Stock Cars. Pit gates open at 3 p.m., the grandstand opens at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. Modified drivers get another shot at putting their name on the All-Star ballot at Shawano’s $1,200 to win Racing For A Reason childhood cancer benefit on Aug. 1.

U.S. 36 hosts fourth annual Crist Memorial for IMCA Stock Cars

OSBORN, Mo. – U.S. 36 Raceway hosts the Joe Crist Memorial Stock Car Shootout on Friday, July 24, with $1,562 going to the winner of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car special. The feature pays a minimum of $125 to start. Crist drove the number 62 Stock Car and $162 will go to the driver making the longest haul to Osborn and $62 paid to each heat winner and the hard charger in the feature. Another $62 goes to the driver drawing the 62 pill. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region, Missouri State and track points will be awarded at the draw/redraw show. There is no entry fee and pit passes are $35. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults and free for kids ages 12 and under. IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods are also on the program that evening. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 6 p.m. Hot laps are at 7:30 p.m. with racing to follow.

Kossuth County Salute to Veterans is Thursday

ALGONA, Iowa – Kossuth County Speedway’s Thursday night Salute to Veterans sees IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars both racing for top checks of $2,000. The Modified feature is a qualifying event for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods both race for $1,000 to win and Mach-1 Sport Compacts complete the sanctioned card at Algona on July 23. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. Spectator admission is $10 for adults and free for veterans and their spouses and kids ages 14 and under. King of the Creek Stock Car checkers are good for $5,000

FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. – IMCA Sunoco Stock Car drivers will battle for King of the Creek honors and a rich $5,000 payday at 141 Speedway July 22 and 23. Qualifying starts Wednesday night, with a $750 to win feature for IMCA Modifieds and $200 to win Mach-1 Sport Compact feature completing the program. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults and $13 for seniors and students. Thursday’s show also sports last-chance qualifying for the Stocks and a $500 to win feature for the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods. Spectator admission is $20 for adults and $14 for seniors and students. Kids ages 10 and under get in free to the grandstand and pit passes are $30 each night. Bilstein Shocks continues IMCA support for 22nd season

POWAY, Calif. – Bilstein Shocks continues its support of IMCA for a 22nd consecutive season. IMCA Modified, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod and Smiley’s Racing Products Southern SportMod competitors are in the running for nearly $8,000 in product certificate awards to be given by the Poway, Calif., manufacturer. The top eligible drivers in each of the five Modified regions receive $350 certificates while runners-up get $250 and third-place finishers $200; top three eligible drivers in both Stock Car regions earn certificates valued at $350, $250 and $150, respectively. Top three drivers in both Hobby Stock regions and in national Northern SportMod and Southern SportMod point standings receive product certificates valued at $300, $200 and $100. Drivers in all five divisions must compete with four Bilstein shocks, display two Bilstein decals on their race car and return a sign-up form to the IMCA home office. Doing double duty at Dodge City, Kaup captures Stock Car Shootout

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. (July 18) – Jeff Kaup has done his fair share of winning at Dodge City Raceway Park in recent years. However, on Saturday night, the Woodward, Okla., racer did it for the first time in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car Ranks by taking the $1,000 winner’s share in a hard-fought Stock Car Shootout presented by Winner’s Circle Feedyards and Factory Direct Fireworks atop the 3/8-mile DCRP clay oval. Kaup has accumulated 20 feature wins while earning six IMCA SportMod championships over the past seven years at Dodge City. This year, Kaup is pulling double-duty in both the SportMods and Stock Cars. And with the big money on the line Saturday evening, Kaup emerged from a wild battle to ultimately take the win in the 25-lapper. Shryock scores IMCA Modified feature win at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (July 18) – Kelly Shryock stated in victory lane that it had been a long time coming to get a feature win at Boone Speedway, but at the end of Saturday’s 20-lap feature for IMCA Modifieds, that is just what he did. Shryock had to fend off some tough competition close behind him much of the race as Randy Havlik, Paul Nagle and Collen Winebarger jousted for position. Nagle made the move around Randy Havlik in the closing laps as they finished second and third, respectively. Winebarger would take fourth place and fellow Oregonian Grey Ferrando took fifth.The 20-lap IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature was a nail biter right down to the final moments. Hutchinson Nationals URSS checkers fly for Velasquez

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (July 17) – For the first time in history, the Mel Hambelton Ford Racing POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series competed at the Hutchinson Nationals. Taylor Velasquez of Liberal, Kansas captured his first win of the year with the series at the 64th event Friday at the Kansas State Fairgrounds, becoming the ninth different winner in eleven races. Jordan Knight and J.D. Johnson set the pace for the 20-lap feature. Knight took off with the early lead while Williams worked his way from fifth starting to second by lap 11. Knight and Velasquez battled hard and made contact with a few laps remaining. Velasquez got past Knight for the lead on lap 19. By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (July 17) – CJ Speedway fans were treated to a classic battle in Friday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock main event. Twenty drivers took the green flag with young Austin Kemper setting the pace for the first half of the main event. While Kemper led, a fierce battle was being waged behind him. Jason See, who had advanced from the seventh position start, was able to break out of the pack of contenders and into second before moving by Kemper on lap 11. See went on to score the win over a hard-charging Adam Bell, who was looking to become a repeat winner at CJ Speedway. Bell was able to get beside See on several occasions before setting for second as Johnny Spaw battled to the front from 11th. Cody Staley captured the mach-1 Sport Compact feature over Brad Havel and William Michel.
