Six tracks host California IMCA Speedweek shows

MERCED, Calif. – California is the place Modified and Northern SportMod drivers will want to be, for the inaugural California IMCA Speedweek Aug. 10-15. IMCA Modifieds race for $1,000 to win their Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying features while Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods chase $750 top checks each night. Racing For A Reason at Shawano helps young cancer patients, families

SHAWANO, Wis. – While the drivers took the checkers, the real winners of Shawano Speedway’s Aug. 1 Racing For A Reason program were young cancer patients and their families. Proceeds from basket donations, silent auctions, bucket drops and drawings at the annual event approached $17,000, putting the total raised for childlife services provided at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Green Bay over the past decade at some $153,000. “Shawano is a tightknit community and I tell people the speedway is family. GOODLAND, Kan. – The POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing is coming off a busy weekend with an action-packed month ahead. On Sunday, Aug. 9, IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car series competitors head to the 3/8-mile Sherman County Speedway in Goodland, Kan. Hot laps are slated to begin at 4 p.m. with green flag racing set to start at 5 p.m. for the county fair race Looking ahead, the URSS will prepare for a doubleheader weekend on Aug. 14 and 15 at Oberlin Speedway in Oberlin, Kan. In 2019, Jake Bubak and Jason Martin were victorious at the 3/8-mile semi-banked dirt track. The Dodge City Raceway Park Nationals will take place Aug. 20-22 and tentatively rounding out the month the schedule sees the United Rebel Sprint Series at Phillips County Speedway in Holyoke, Kan., on Aug. 28.

Daniels cruises in Stuart Stock Car feature

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (Aug. 5) – Bob Daniels worked his way to the front, then cruised to the Wednesday night IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature win at Stuart Speedway. Brad Derry and Brock Badger showed the way to the green flag but Daniels used the bottom of the track to take over the lead just before halfway and stayed in front to the checkers. Badger finished second with Buck Schafroth third. Tim Ward led the way through traffic and led Tom Berry Jr. across the stripe in the IMCA Modified main event. Dylan Nelson took charge at the crossed flags and led to the finish of the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. There was no catching Brayton Carter after he rocketed from seventh starting to the lead two laps into the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature. Hunter Patrick topped a thriller for the Mach-1 Sport Compacts. Aug. 19 will be Hall of Fame Night.

Braaksma is first at Fairmont for third IMCA Speed Shift TV Dirt Knights win

FAIRMONT, Minn. (Aug. 5) – Ethan Braaksma’s first visit to Fairmont Raceway ended with his third Speed Shift TV Dirt Knights Tour for IMCA Modifieds feature win of the summer. Braaksma started outside the front row and led all 25 laps Wednesday on the fast half-mile oval, earning $1,000 for his efforts. “I had a good car tonight and hit some good, consistent laps,” he said. “We haven’t changed much on the car this year and kind of went with what we’ve been doing. I don’t have a lot of experience on half miles and thought we did a good job making adjustments from our heat to the feature.” After an early caution, the Bob Shryock Memorial headliner ran green another 17 straight laps. Hershey tribute this Saturday at Port Royal

By Frank Buhrman PORT ROYAL, Pa. – The Pennsylvania Sprint Series will make its fourth 2020 visit to Port Royal Speedway Saturday night, taking part in a program honoring the memory of a widely respected member of the Central Pennsylvania racing community. The Tribute to Curt Hershey honors one of the area’s leading engine builders, who passed away earlier this year. More than a few Hershey motors will be racing this weekend at Port Royal. For PASS teams, the tribute also means a purse increase and special awards. CG Racing Engines has added to the race purse to make the winner’s share $444 (Hershey’s son Joey ran car no. 44 with PASS), with comparable increases throughout the field; last place will pay $222. IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars to headline U.S. 36 show on Friday

OSBORN, Mo. – This Friday, Aug. 7, the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars headline a big night of racing at U.S. 36 Raceway with a $1,200 to win and $250 to start show. Along with the Sprint Cars, the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods are also racing. Sprint Cars will run under the draw and redraw format. Following an idle weekend at the 3/8-mile clay oval, this Saturday’s tilt will be the final opportunity to get dialed in for the Hambelton Racing DCRP Sprint Cars before the Nationals that take place on Aug. 20-22 as the Sprint Cars have next Saturday, August 15 off in order to finalize preparations for the mega-event. Along with the Sprint Cars, this Saturday’s card includes a full slate of championship chase action including IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks.
