DAVENPORT, Iowa (May 29, 2026) — Mitch Morris captured his first Davenport Speedway victory of the season Friday night in the Sunoco IMCA Late Models, but it didn’t come easy.

Morris found himself in an early battle with Blaise Lewis before Lewis became tangled with a lapped car, bringing out a caution and sending him to the rear of the field. Morris then had to fend off challenges from Andy Nezworski during the middle stages of the race and Cruz Birkhofer over the closing laps.

The McCausland driver held strong to earn his second victory of the season. Birkhofer charged from 10th to finish second while Nezworski advanced from eighth to third. Jesse Bodin crossed the stripe fourth and Matt Ryan rallied from 12th to fifth. Dustin Smith posted one of the night’s most impressive drives, advancing from 21st to sixth.

Morris, Lewis and Logan Veloz claimed heat race victories.

Diercks Charges from 12th for Modified Triumph

Spencer Diercks finally broke through for a victory in the Karl Kustoms IMCA Modified division.

Jason Pershy, Matt Fulton Jr. and Tony VonDresky battled for the lead during the early stages of the 20-lap main event. VonDresky utilized the cushion while Pershy and Fulton worked the bottom groove.

Starting 12th and still outside the top five with eight laps remaining, Diercks found speed around the top side of the speedway and quickly closed on the leaders. He completed the winning pass on Pershy on the final lap to secure the victory.

The Davenport driver earned his fourth Razor Chassis North Central Region win of the season at four different tracks.

Pershy finished second ahead of Fulton and VonDresky. Matt Werner advanced from ninth to complete the top five.

Eckrich Earns First Career SportMod Victory

Bryson Eckrich captured the first feature victory of his racing career in the Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMods.

The 15-year-old Oxford racer started fourth and led 12 of the 15 laps. Ben Chapman briefly took the lead near the midway point, but Eckrich responded immediately and reclaimed the top spot one lap later.

Eckrich maintained control the rest of the way to secure the milestone victory.

Chapman charged from eighth to finish second while Tyler Maschmann advanced from 11th to third. Finn Oppenheimer crossed the line fourth and Josh Starr completed an impressive 15th-to-fifth run.

Ellithorpe Scores Second Davenport Stock Car Win

Jacob Ellithorpe collected his second Davenport Speedway victory of the season in the Sunoco IMCA Stock Cars.

The Maquoketa driver started third and led the final 13 laps en route to his second EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region triumph of 2026, with both victories coming at Davenport.

Jerry Miles finished second followed by Kodey Miles. Andrew Burk placed fourth and Greg Gill rounded out the top five.

The feature was slowed on lap three when Jordan Miles lost the rear end of his machine exiting turn three and rolled violently. Jordan escaped without serious injury.

Miles Continues Winning Ways in Hobby Stocks

Karter Miles added another victory to his strong season in the Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stocks.

The Bernard driver started eighth and raced to the lead by the completion of lap three. Preston McDonald kept the pressure on throughout the feature and briefly took the lead before Miles regained the top spot and held on for the win.

The victory was Miles’ third Davenport triumph of the season and his seventh B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region score of 2026.

McDonald finished second while Carson Butt advanced from eighth to third. Randy LaMar charged from 12th to fourth and Jamie Hixson completed the top five.
