Paul Seizes Opportunity and Wins at Petaluma

PETALUMA, Calif. (Aug. 2, 2025) — A wild moment early in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main event at Petaluma Speedway turned into a winning opportunity for a familiar local name.

Jeff Browne took command from the drop of the green on the 3/8-mile adobe clay at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds, but the lead wouldn’t last long. Brother Tyler Browne quickly reeled him in and challenged for the top spot by lap three. The sibling battle came to a dramatic conclusion when the two tangled while racing down the backstretch. The contact sent Tyler into a frightening series of flips, but thankfully both drivers emerged from the wreckage unhurt.

That opened the door for multi-time track champion Michael Paul Jr., who inherited the lead and never looked back. The hometown hero cruised the rest of the way to earn his second feature win of the season in the Shaw Race Cars Western Region — both triumphs coming at Petaluma.

Chris Sieweke powered to a strong second-place finish, while 2021 track champion Michelle Byron completed the podium in third.

Combs, Wilson, Johnson Crowned Central California Clash Champions

By Ben Deatherage VINTON, Iowa (May 28, 2025) — Josh Combs, Dylan Wilson, and Nicholas Johnson each made history with their first career Central California Clash championships in their respective Speedway Motors IMCA divisions, capping a competitive four-race tour across the Golden State. Roseville’s Josh Combs clinched the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified title with a strong and consistent week. After opening with a ninth-place finish at Bakersfield Speedway at Kevin Harvick’s Kern County Raceway Park, he stormed to victory at Santa Maria. Combs followed that with a runner-up finish at Merced before closing the series with a fifth-place run at Petaluma. Bakersfield youngster Gavyn Manning was runner-up in points after finishing second on opening night, taking ninth at Santa Maria, winning at Merced, and wrapping up the week 10th at Petaluma. Paul scores big win at Petaluma

By Ben Deatherage PETALUMA, Calif. (April 9, 2022) – Michael Paul Jr., paced a healthy field of Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds Saturday night at Petaluma Speedway. Raymond Lindeman had a fast hot rod from the drop of the first green flag before having to deal with restarts as three cautions happened in the first five circuits. After the third restart, Lindeman received company in the likes of hometown driver Paul, who battled with the leader for several laps before capturing the top spot on the 13th lap. Paul had to deal with a pair of stoppages himself in the later stages of the feature, as he held on through a green, white, checkered finish to win ahead of Cody Burke and Jim Pettit II. Racing in the Josh Combs-owned entry, Anthony Slaney placed fourth with fifth going to Lindeman.

Machado masters IMCA Modifieds at Petaluma

By Stephanie Deatherage PETALUMA, Calif. (May 22) – Mitch Machado became the latest IMCA Modified feature winner at Petaluma Speedway Saturday night. Taking advantage of his inside front row starting position, Machado charged to the lead at the start of the 25-lap main event. The veteran felt some brief pressure from Michael Paul Jr. but was able to temper his advances as the race continued. Four cautions took place, but one thing remained the same, Machado was the leader. Despite the occasional bid to overtake him, Machado set the pace for the rest of the distance to secure his first win of the season at Petaluma. Paul was the runner-up with third going to Anthony Slaney. Terry Kaiser was fourth while Jake Dewsbury ended the race fifth.

Thompson Powers to Victory at Buena Vista Raceway to Open Iowa Speedweek

By Ben Deatherage ALTA, Iowa (Aug. 4, 2025) — Cody Thompson kicked off Iowa Speedweek in style, charging from 10th to win the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature on opening night of the Battle of the Beaver at Buena Vista Raceway. It was his sixth win of the season in the Razor Chassis North Central Region and second trip to victory lane at Alta in 2025, joining last month’s Kyle Suter Memorial triumph. Minnesota’s Jesse Rogotzke led the opening 13 circuits before a caution reset the field. Wisconsin’s Cole Czarneski, defending 141 Speedway Modified and Sunoco IMCA Stock Car champion, took command on the restart and held off Rogotzke’s counterattack before another yellow slowed the action.
