Whisler Construction Banks Mod Nationals Set for August 9 at Sunset Speedway Park

By Ben Deatherage

BANKS, Ore. (Aug. 2, 2025) — Sunset Speedway Park will be the place to be as the Whisler Construction Banks Mod Nationals presented by Schram Bros Excavating takes center stage on Saturday, August 9. Friesen Performance IMCA Modified drivers from across the area will converge on the tight ¼-mile bullring, all chasing a $2,000 payday in the 40-lap main event.

The action-packed program will feature a unique qualifying and scramble-based format. Swan Island Sheet Metal qualifying will see all competitors time in via pill draw order, with the fastest car drawing for an invert chip to set up the heat race grids. Fast time receives $100, with second and third quick times each earning $50.

James Gang Pizza Heat Races will consist of either three or four 10-lap heats, depending on car count. If three heats are run, the top four from each will transfer directly to the main; if four are run, the top three will advance. Heat winners and the fastest qualifying transfer driver will be locked into the Dirt Oval TV Scramble. Each heat winner also earns a $100 bonus.

The Drager Performance Oil Draw adds some fun and randomness to the night. Scramble participants will each draw quarts of oil marked with numbers, which determine starting positions for the scramble.

The Dirt Oval TV Scramble will be a short dash — one lap per scheduled car — to decide the front rows of the main event. The scramble winner pockets $100 and earns a great starting sport for the big show.

Should the total number of entries exceed 20 cars, LCQs will be run to fill out the final eight positions of the main event grid. The 20-car, 40-lap feature will headline the night, with every starter guaranteed at least $200 and the Dirt Oval TV Hard Charger taking home an extra $100.

Second place earning $1,000, third $500, fourth $400, fifth $300, and positions sixth through tenth paying $250. Spots eleven through twenty will each receive $200.

Joining the card will be the Sunoco IMCA Stock Cars, racing for a $1,250 winner’s share under a standard draw/redraw format.

The pit area will open at 2 p.m. Front gates open to spectators at 4 p.m. Hot laps are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with racing to follow at 6:30 p.m.

For fans that cannot make it live in person they can watch on IMCA TV affiliate Dirt Oval TV.
