COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (May 3, 2025) — The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified 25-lap main event at Cottage Grove Speedway was full of fierce action and multiple lead changes before Springfield’s Jake Mayden emerged as the winner. Brett Muth led the opening circuits before three-time track champ Curtis Towns slipped by on lap 6, only for the Superior Fuel Cells owned no. 42 entry driven by Kevin Williamson to charge to the front via the high side two laps later.
Williamson maintained a narrow advantage until late in the race when Bricen James, aboard the Schram Motorsports fielded no. 13, closed the gap. James, a former Shaw Race Cars Western Region and two-time Oregon State champion, seized the lead on lap 20. When the checkered flag flew James and Williamson were first and second at the line. Unfortunately, some deck height infractions in post-race tech would change the finishing order.
Five-time reigning track titlist Jake Mayden ultimately claimed his first Shaw Race Cars Western Region win of 2025. California’s Ethan Killingsworth was second, with James credited in third.
Sanders Claims Grove Glory
The Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMods feature saw Trevor Points bolt to an early lead before a lap five caution reset the field. Points, the 2023 Oregon State champion, stayed strong up front until lapped traffic allowed Brookings native Matt Sanders to close in.
Sanders, the 2022 state and track champ, edged ahead on lap 15 and fended off Points and the T.R. Points Trucking-backed no, 1185 Ricky Ashley after a late caution to score his first win of the season.
Vicari Victorious for the First Time
Eugene’s Jack Vicari earned his first-ever Cottage Grove Speedway victory in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact division. Vicari got around Charles Trissell on lap two and never looked back.
Despite pressure from Tiffany Towns following an early caution, Vicari pulled away for the win. Towns was second, while Matthew Bangle crossed the line in third.
The event was broadcast live by IMCA TV affiliate Dirt Oval TV. Missed the action? Subscribe to the IMCA TV Replay Subscription for just $24.99/month to watch it all on demand. The Boone Docuseries Season 2 is now streaming exclusively on IMCA TV.
