MESQUITE, Texas (March 5, 2023) – Cody Smith made two trips to victory lane, on night two of the Sunoco Race Fuels Lone Star Tour presented by Sniper Speed. The Kaufman clipper dominated in winning the headline IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event Sunday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, then ended the show with a late drive to the front of the Smiley’s Racing Products IMCA Southern SportMod feature field. Smith caught Jesse Sobbing for the lead three laps into the Stock Car feature and put some distance on the pack before the only caution of the contest flew after midway. Jeffrey Abbey snuck into second following the restart but couldn’t close the gap over the final 10 times around the oval. Smith took the $1,000 win and B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility ahead of Abbey and Saturday tour winner Paul White. Gould came from behind in three of the four rounds before claiming the $1,000 payday and punching his ticket to the $10,000-to-win Dirt Dominator at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas on Oct. 25. After defeating John Freeman in the Sweet 16, Gould had his hands full with Chris Elliott in the Elite Eight. Elliott led Gould by three car lengths after the white flag flew on the two and a half lap dash. Gould wasn’t about to coast to the finish, however, as he drove his no. 60 IMCA Modified deep into turns three and four to pull even with Elliott off the corner. The two drivers drag raced down the front stretch to the checkers. Elliott brushed the outside retaining wall, which was all Gould needed to take the win by a nose at the line and advance to [Read More]
