Repeat winners are Saturday story at Canyon

PEORIA, Ariz. (March 17) – Repeat winners were the story Saturday at Canyon Speedway Park.

Jason Noll wasted no time following a Leading Edge IMCA Modified restart and made what proved to be the race-winning pass of Ryan Roath to the inside when the green flag flew. Chaz Baca had a strong run going until a misstep allowed Joey Moriarity to get by to the inside, putting both MRT Racecar teammates on the podium.

For the first time in almost a full year the race fans at Canyon were treated to a full Allscapes IMCA Stock Car battle between Cody Center and George Fronsman. It seems between the two it’s been one of them having some type of mechanical problem over the last six or so races. At last, both cars held up to full strength and the fight raged on.

Much of the race was led by Fronsman on the low side while Center continued to chip away on the cushion. Center finally got the run he needed to get by Fronsman and did look back.

For the third time this season, Joe Peterson recovered from an early trip to the hot pits en route to victory lane in the Desert Restorations IMCA Hobby Stocks.

Billy Ayres Jr. captured his second win of the year in the brand new Mach-1 Sport Compact division.

Next up at Canyon Speedway Park on Saturday, March 31 will be the Easter Eggstravaganza, featuring the Leading Edge IMCA Modifieds and Arizona Differential IMCA Northern SportMods.

Parmeley, Kuehl, Fronsman top Canyon features

(June 8) – John Parmeley continued his hot streak at Canyon Speedway Park with his fourth victory of the year in the Arizona Differential IMCA Modifieds Saturday night, while Taylor Kuehl grabbed her first win of the season in the Askrens Trucking/Flexi Flyer IMCA Northern SportMods. In Allscapes IMCA Stock Car action it was once again George Fronsman in victory lane, earning his fifth win of the season. A new point leader has been crowned after another weekend of Modified action as Parmeley snagged a two point lead from the ever-consistent Ryan Roath. Jay Foster started the feature from the pole, taking off from the field for the first few laps of the race. With Foster in charge, Parmeley drove up from the eighth spot to challenge. Parmeley prevails at Canyon

(April 1) – John Parmeley pulled off the sweep in the Leading Edge IMCA Modifieds Saturday at Canyon Speedway Park, winning his heat race before driving from his sixth starting spot to take the feature win. Parmeley declared himself as the car to beat early on, making his way around leader K.C. Dieckman and driving away from the field. Parmeley held the large advantage through numerous cautions until Jason Noll found himself behind the leader on a restart. Parmeley and Noll escaped the fray with only a handful of laps to go to battle it out for the win. Noll made the first mistake coming to the white flag, allowing Parmeley to get away with the win. Noll held on for second with Zachary Madrid, Chaz Baca Jr. and Bubba Stafford rounding out the top five. Speedy Madrid wound up with the Arizona Differential IMCA Northern SportMod victory after the apparent winner failed post-race tech.

IMCA Modifieds headline Canyon’s Nov. 3, 4 Desert Dash

PEORIA, Ariz. – IMCA Modifieds race for $1,500 to win and berths on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot both nights of Canyon Speedway Park’s Friday and Saturday, Nov. 3 and 4 Desert Dash. Both features pay a minimum of $125 to start. Also running each night are Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods for $1,000 to win and $100 to start; IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars for $500 to win and $65 to start; and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $250 to win and $50 to start. Pill draw fee is $50 for Modifieds, $40 for Northern SportMods, $30 for Stock Cars and $20 for Hobby Stocks. Spectator admission each night is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors ages 60 and over and military personnel, and free for kids 11 and under. Battle for the Belt Brings Two Nights of Action to WaKeeney Speedway Oct. 16-17

(Sept. 21, 2026) — Two nights of racing and a pair of All-Star Invitational qualifying opportunities headline the Battle for the Belt at WaKeeney Speedway on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 16-17. Karl Kustoms IMCA Modifieds, Sunoco IMCA Stock Cars, Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMods, Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stocks, and Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts will compete in complete shows both nights following an open practice Thursday, Oct. 15. Saturday’s program will carry additional significance for the Modifieds and Stock Cars. Pettit Shootout Brings Two Nights of Action to Watsonville Speedway Oct. 2-3

(Sept. 21, 2026) — Two complete nights of racing, a pair of Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying events, and a 103-lap Saturday Modified main event highlight the 16th annual Pettit Shootout at Watsonville Speedway on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 2-3. Karl Kustoms IMCA Modifieds and Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMods will compete both nights, with each program serving as a separate show. There will be no lock-ins from Friday to Saturday, putting every competitor back on equal footing for the second night. The Pettit Shootout is run in memory of Jim Pettit and Pat Pettit, the parents of event promoter Jim Pettit II. The number three carries special significance in the event because Pat’s birthday was Jan. 3, and that connection is reflected throughout the weekend’s format. Shatzer Schools Virginia Sprint Series Field at Natural Bridge

(Sept. 19, 2026) — Dylan Shatzer is a schoolteacher by day, but Saturday night he moved the classroom to Natural Bridge Speedway and taught the Virginia Sprint Series field a lesson with a clean sweep of the evening. Shatzer won his heat race before charging to the front of the RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car feature and staying there through the checkered flag. Matthew Mullins was the other heat race winner. Mullins and Billy Hubbard led the feature field to green, with Mullins getting the early advantage while Hubbard settled into second. Shatzer and Daren Bolac followed close behind. Shatzer quickly worked his way around Hubbard for second and immediately began applying pressure to Mullins for the top spot. The eventual winner swept into the lead, with Hubbard moving into second. Behind them, Bolac and Mullins battled for third while Jerald Harris began working his way forward from fifth.
