McBirnie Charges From 11th for Boone Modified Victory

BOONE, Iowa (July 4, 2026) — Jake McBirnie sliced through the field from the 11th starting position to capture the Karl Kustoms IMCA Modified feature Saturday night at Boone Speedway, earning his second Razor Chassis North Central Region victory of the season at two different tracks.

Chaz Baca Jr. paced the opening 11 circuits after taking the lead at the drop of the green before McBirnie arrived at the front on lap 12. Once in command, the Boone driver pulled away to secure the victory.

Nick Meyer finished second ahead of Baca. Todd Shute crossed the stripe fourth, while Chase Weimer completed the top five.

Knutson and Will Smith Split Hobby Stock Features

With 48 entries the Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stocks were divided into twin features.

In the first feature, Eric Knutson charged from seventh and completed a last-lap pass of Brayden Hurley to score his eighth B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region victory of the season and fifth at Boone in 2026.

Hurley settled for second after leading most of the race, while Braden Gifford produced one of the night’s best drives, advancing 21 positions from 24th to third. Tasker Timmerman and Joey Young rounded out the top five.

Feature two belonged to Will Smith. After Andy Smith led the opening seven laps, Will Smith took command on lap eight and raced away for his sixth Northern Region victory of the season, including his fourth at Boone.

Corey VanDerwilt finished second ahead of Justin Frederick, Andy Smith and Joe Wollenhaupt.

Mike Smith Storms From Ninth for SportMod Win

Mike Smith advanced from ninth starting position to win the Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMod feature.

Jason Carney controlled the opening nine laps before Smith charged to the lead and never looked back, collecting his seventh victory of the season and third at Boone.

Will Wolf advanced from 11th to finish second, followed by Dayton Swatek, Carney and Gage Hilgenberg.

Devin Smith Wins Fifth Boone Stock Car Feature

Devin Smith continued his dominance at Boone by charging from 10th to win the Sunoco IMCA Stock Car main event.

Jared Myers led early before Smith took over on lap seven and drove away for his fifth EQ Cylinder Heads Northern Region victory of the season, with every one of those wins coming at Boone Speedway.

Austin Meiners finished second ahead of Josh Daniels. David Smith turned in an outstanding drive from 22nd to fourth, while Jimmy Gustin advanced from 18th to complete the top five.

Gray Charges 10 Spots in Mod Lite Victory

Austin Gray came from 11th to win the Stealth Racing IMCA Mod Lite feature, earning his fourth victory of the season and third at Boone.

Gray overtook early leader Travis Stensland on lap eight and pulled away from there. Charlie Brown finished second, Riley Clem third, Garrett Barber fourth and Stensland rounded out the top five.

The race was slowed early when Grant Anderson flipped in turn two following contact with several cars. Anderson was uninjured but unable to continue.
