ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (May 23, 2026) — The Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMods produced some of the best racing of Sweetwater Speedway’s Memorial Day weekend ‘May Mayhem’ opener presented by Pitt Stop Motorsports as Payce Herrera swept both feature events against stacked fields on the 3/8-mile Sweetwater Events Complex oval.
Friday’s 25-lap opener featured a packed 27-car field and ended with one of the weekend’s most thrilling finishes. Herrera, from Price, Utah, charged from eighth and used lapped traffic to his advantage before making a last-lap, last-corner pass on Josh Pate to steal the victory.
The triumph was Herrera’s sixth win of the season at his third different track of 2026. Pate settled for second while David Pitt completed the podium. J.D. Renfro crossed the stripe fourth with Slade Pitt rounding out the top five.
Herrera returned Saturday and proved the opening-night performance was no fluke. Starting fourth, he raced to another feature victory to complete the weekend sweep and score his seventh triumph of the year. Justin Wright advanced from ninth to finish second while Kyle Menlove came home third. Jimmy Renfro stormed from 17th to fourth and Shawn Parish completed the top five.
Late Pass Lifts Dimick as Yeager Claims Opening-Night Modified Win
The Karl Kustoms IMCA Modifieds produced exciting finishes both nights, highlighted by a dramatic final-lap pass on Saturday.
Friday’s opener saw Green River driver Braxton Yeager score the first DeVilbiss Racing Chassis Western Region victory of his season after starting third. Yeager outran Casey Delp and Justen Yeager while Tucker Hislop and Brian Ungaro completed the top five.
Saturday’s feature appeared headed toward a Michael Hale victory until lap traffic tightened the battle in the closing circuits. Kade Dimick capitalized, rocketing past Hale on the final lap to steal the win.
Dimick, from Price, Utah, started fourth and earned his fourth Western Region victory of 2026 and first Sweetwater Speedway triumph of the campaign. Hale finished second while Bart Taylor advanced from eighth to third. Brothers Bryson and Braxton Yeager completed the top five.
Poll Masters Massive Sport Compact Fields for Weekend Sweep
The Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts once again delivered huge car counts and intense competition with Cody Poll sweeping the weekend against loaded fields.
Friday’s opener attracted 34 entries, with Poll racing to victory from third starting position for his second win of the season. Travis Bott placed second while Ethan Poll charged from 12th to third. Kaleb Clark and McKay Clark completed the top five while Tavian Leonard earned hard charger honors after advancing from 18th to sixth.
Poll doubled down Saturday night, slicing through another massive 32-car field from eighth starting position to complete the weekend sweep and secure his third victory of 2026.
Sam Ogden finished second while Lane Owens crossed the stripe third. Bott advanced from 11th to fourth and Marc Hammond climbed from 10th to fifth.
Johnson and Vasquez Split Hobby Stock Honors
The Sunoco IMCA Hobby Stocks opened their first full championship season at Sweetwater Speedway with different winners each night.
Friday’s feature belonged to Race Vasquez of Price, Utah, who earned his third win of the season at three different tracks and his first B&B Racing Chassis Northern Region triumph. Jeremy Johnson finished second ahead of Brady Barlow, Danica Delp and Preslie Thorne.
Johnson returned Saturday and turned the tables on Vasquez, capitalizing on a front-row starting spot to score his first Northern Region victory of 2026.
The Fairview, Utah driver held off Vasquez while Nash Koehn finished third. Randy Barlow and Preslie Thorne rounded out the top five.
