Sessums Opens Kennedale Season with Sprint Car Victory

By Ben Deatherage

KENNEDALE, Texas (Mar. 1, 2025) — Jeb Sessums kicked off the 2025 Kennedale Speedway Park campaign with a commanding victory in the $1,000-to-win RaceSaver IMCA Sprint Car main event. Driving for Taco Casa Racing, the Burleson, Texas racer led all 25 laps, holding off some strong challenges from his teammate, John Carney II.

Sessums wasted no time taking the lead at the drop of the green, with 2015 RaceSaver Nationals winner Carney staying close behind. As the leaders hit lapped traffic just before the halfway mark, Sessums expertly navigated the high side while keeping Carney at bay.

Carney eventually made a bold move in turn three, diving to the inside, but Sessums held firm on the cushion and maintained his advantage. A caution soon after reset the field, creating a crucial restart. When racing resumed, Carney bobbled, briefly losing second place to 2019 Southern United Sprint champion Tyler Harris. As they battled, Sessums pulled away and cruised to his first victory of 2025.

Carney recovered to finish second, while Harris rounded out the podium in third.

Guillaume Capitalizes Late for Stock Car Win

The Sunoco IMCA Stock Car feature saw Matt Guillaume take command early, fending off a spirited charge from Jerrett Bransom. Bransom, a three-time Kennedale Speedway Park Stock Car champion, worked on the high side, battling door-to-door with Guillaume for multiple laps.

The fight ended on lap 11 when the three-time EQ Cylinder Head Southern Region and three-time Kennedale Stock Car champ got out of shape in turn two, allowing Bransom to take over. Bransom looked poised for victory, but with just two laps to go, his car went up in smoke, forcing him out of the race and handing the lead back to Guillaume.

On the restart, the Haslet, Texas driver had no trouble maintaining control, securing his first win of the season.

2008 National Friesen Performance IMCA Modified champion P.J. Egbert finished second, while G.W. Egbert IV, the defending Cotton Bowl Speedway Stock Car champion, claimed third.

Geurin Wins Southern SportMod Thriller

The Smiley’s Racing Products IMCA Southern SportMod feature saw Steven Ashcraft take the early lead before facing pressure from Tyler Russell on a restart. In a thrilling sequence, Brandon Geurin executed a daring double pass in turn two, grabbing the lead on lap 4.

Geurin couldn’t pull away as a lap 6 caution bunched up the field. He and Russell fought fiercely for the top spot when the racing resumed. Russell eventually edged ahead on lap 8, running the low groove.

As Russell built a gap, another yellow flag with seven to go erased his advantage. He got a strong jump on the final restart, but Geurin wasn’t done yet. With two laps remaining, the 2022 All Star Shootout and two-time defending Heart O’ Texas champion made a decisive move on the bottom, reclaiming the lead and scoring his first victory of 2025.

Russell and Ashcraft completed the podium.
