JEFFERSON, S.D. (Sept. 22, 2024) – The topless Friesen Performance IMCA Modified finale was a thrilling spectacle Sunday at Interstate Speedway, culminating in an exciting green, white, checkered finish.
Izac Mallicoat’s daring fighter pilot moves from the top shelf to secure the lead and the win added an extra dose of excitement to the race.
The race kicked off with Bob Fleshman taking an early lead, only to be overtaken by Jason Schneiders on the next lap. As Schneiders battled to maintain his lead against Jace Whitt, Chris Abelson entered the fray, intensifying the competition.
Abelson’s incredible double overtake pass in turn three was a display of skill and strategy. It was a moment that left the audience in awe of his racing prowess.
As the race progressed, Mallicoat steadily closed the gap with Abelson, but it seemed he might run out of time. However, the game changed when a caution was raised with only two laps remaining, giving Mallicoat the opportunity he needed to make his move.
Just when it seemed Mallicoat might run out of time, he threw the dice one last time. His unexpected, fearless rip of the top shelf for triumph was a great way to end the night’s action.
Abelson was a close second, while Schneiders wound up third.
Four additional IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing divisions were on the card. These included the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts.
Todd Gereau, Geoff Olson, David Miller and Dillon Richards were victorious.
Gereau ran a flawless race in the Stock Cars and led the entire way. The only thing that slowed his efforts down was a lap six stoppage.
Greg Peck won the close race for second while Greg Taylor settled for third.
The Northern SportMods were also topless. Kirk Beatty and Willy Kirk battled early for dominance, with Kirk securing the position on lap two. But on lap five the eventual winner, Olson, entered the mix as he made a run to the front.
Despite a lap seven caution, the Sioux City, Iowa chauffeur had no issues on the restart.
Kirk stayed among the front runners and finished second. Gregg Hamman had a solid performance in third.
In the Hobby Stocks, Miller was the class of the field. Setting a searing pace the entire distance, the driver was yet another Sioux City, Iowa native to grace victory lane.
Brandon Nielsen was a strong second, followed by Tony Fetterman in third.
Dillon Richards made a rare cameo in the Sport Compacts. Racing his wife Kaylee’s car, the Beatrice, Nebraska driver was the only driver not to hail out of the Hawkeye State in victory lane. The victory was dominating, as he picked up the lead from the very start.
The race for second was a close one as Gilbert Aldape beat Johnny Thomas to the line by a slim margin.
IMCA TV affiliate Advantage Racing TV broadcast the event.
