COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (May 31, 2024) – The 2024 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing season continued Friday at CJ Speedway following a rain out of the previous week.
The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature saw Kyle Madden drive to the front in search of his second feature win in a row at the 4/10 mile dirt track. Madden was way out front when a restart bunched the field up with seven laps completed.
Under caution a fuel issue developed in the no. 32 car sidelining Madden. When the race restarted, Kurt Kile took over the race lead and went on to score the win ahead of Kolton Osborn. The win was Kile’s first of the season at CJ Speedway.
The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars are always a great show at Columbus Junction and with a strong field of drivers taking the green for their main event fans were treated to another great race.
Norman Bean took the lead early and appeared to be the man to beat. Bean was holding off the constant challenges of John Oliver Jr. until Oliver was able to make a slick move and get by Bean for the lead.
Oliver went on to record the 16-lap feature win taking the checkers ahead of Bean, Jason See and Casen Keller.
Tyler Heckart joined the list of winners at CJ Speedway in 2024 by scoring the win in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. Heckart took the lead at the drop of the green flag and went on to lead the main event flag to flag.
Oliver worked into second early in the race but was unable to mount a serious challenge to the strong-running Heckart. Oliver held on to finish second ahead of Colton Livezey.
Ryan Havel and Luke Phillips put on a good race for the lead swapping the point positions a couple of times in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Havel led early before Phillips took over only to have Havel regain the lead and go on to win back-to-back main events. Preston McDonald came under the checkers in third.
Racing will continue on Friday, June 7 on Kemper Trucking Night at the Races. Hot laps will get underway at 7 p.m. with racing to follow.
