BRITT, Iowa (May 17, 2024) – Kelly Shryock drove his way to the front twice Friday night during the School’s Out for Summer event, sponsored by Trulson Auto Parts & Service at Hancock County Speedway.
In the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, Shryock started sixth and ran down early leader Todd Stinehart, who stayed close through the midpoint of the race until Shryock was able to pull away over the late stages.
Jeremy Mills got around Stinehart at the end to finish second.
In the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Shryock wheeled the topside of the speedway from the 10th starting spot to capture the win.
It wasn’t easy, though, as early leader Heath Tulp would not go away and raced to Shryock’s inside several times late but couldn’t return to the lead. In a mad scramble to the finish, Colby Fett snuck past Tulp for second.
Once again, the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods put on a dandy race at Britt. Alec Fett held the lead for much of the race until late when a lap car posed a challenge for the front runners.
Alec reacted to the lapper and brother Colby was able to streak past to take the lead. Colby crossed the checkers first, with Alec second. Charlie Stevens had another strong run, finishing third.
Brandon Nielsen stayed perfect in Britt in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, but it wasn’t without its challenges. After being comfortably in front late in the race, Nielsen got out of the racing groove at the top of turn two, allowing Josh Sidles to assume the lead.
Nielsen dug deep and rebounded, getting back by Sidles for the win. The last couple laps were wild as not only did Nielsen get the lead back, but Cody Hubbell also raced to second ahead of Sidles.
Action returns to Hancock County Speedway on Friday, May 24tfor the Stars, Stripes and Sirens special. All veterans, and active-duty military, police, fire department and first responders receive free admission to the event.
