SHAWANO, Wis. (July 22, 2023) – There were some new faces in victory lane at the legendary half-mile Shawano Speedway Saturday night.

Up first was the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division and the man of the hour would be Mitch Stankowski as he jumped to an early lead from sixth starting and into the lead by two. Travis VanStraten and Dan Michonski followed in what became a three-car breakaway.

Stankowski held his ground, fought off the challenges of his fellow competitors and was not denied as he raced his no. 5 to victory lane.

“It’s nice to win and I want to do it again,” he said. “We definitely have a lot of stout competition here.”

As the checkered flags flew at the line in the $3,000 to win Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature it was Johnny Whitman, Mike Wedelstadt, Mike Mullen and Konnor Willinski finishing in that order.

However after post-race inspection track officials deemed Whitman was disqualified for a weight infraction which gave the victory and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility to Wedelstadt.  

In a caution slowed Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature Doug Belongia Jr., and Dustin “Cheech” Marquardt sat on the front row.  Tommy Rindt and Bryce Clements would be their dancing partners for the front two rows.  At the drop of the green  

Bryce Clements quickly worked his way up to the top spot and led several laps. Local hotshoe Zachary Raab weaved his way toward the front between yellows and after several more cautions and a single file restart, Raab, Tyler Sobiesczyk, J.J. Vanderloop and Jeffery Teske were the front four.

As the white flag flew Sobiesczyk was starting to close the gap but Raab continued to lead the last two circuits and piloted his no. 74 to victory lane.

Yarie, Mullen are Shawano IMCA Modified winners, Siefert, Christians score Classic Stock Car victories

SHAWANO, Wis. (July 24 and 25) – The inaugural event at Shawano Speedway billed as the Mid-Sum­mer Classic proved to be just that. Marcus Yarie and Mike Mullen earned $1,150 IMCA Modified feature wins and Fast Shafts All-Star Invita­tional ballot berths, Jared Siefert and Jeremy Christians were $1,000 IMCA Sunoco Stock Car winners and Jeff Schmuhl swept $600 to win Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod features July 24 and 25. Opening night set a high bar when it came to action on the track with multiple features providing three-wide racing all around the oval. Hall of Fame Night checkers fly for Wilinski

(June 1) – Jerry Wilinski was the IMCA Modified winner on Hall of Fame Induction Night at Shawano Speedway.  Wilinski skated by Tim Rothe on the second lap to grab the lead in the Saturday main event. Wilinski checked out from the field until a lap nine caution brought the pack back together.  The yellow flag was the only thing that slowed Wilinski as he again jumped to a dominating lead on the restart. Wyatt Block, Rothe and Konnor Wilinski were left to sort things out for second at the line with Block grabbing the spot followed by Roth and Konnor Wilinski in the top four. Mission accomplished for Karl

Owen SHAWANO, Wis, (Aug. 20, 2022) – Andy Karl survived a caution slowed Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature to score his first-ever feature win at the historic half mile Shawano Speedway Saturday night. Former rookie of the year Adam Jacobson took the lead at the start of the event. Karl went to the inside on lap three to take the lead. Karl survived and used multiple restarts to maintain his advantage at the front of the field. JJ Anderson applied pressure to the leader before mechanical woes ended his night. Late in the race, Karl held off Jayden Schmidt for the win. Schmidt advanced 13 spots for second. Lucas Lamberies finished third. Ageless Jerry Muenster was fourth and Marcus Yarie advanced 11 spots to take fifth.   The Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature hit the track with third generation racer JJ Vanderloop leading lap one.  Vanderloop quickly began to pull away from the rest of the field as Mike Springborn ran second on the grid. As Vanderloop clicked off lap after lap in the lead, Bryce Clements, [Read More]
