ALGONA, Iowa (June 29, 2023) – All summer long, Swea City’s Matt Looft has simply dominated the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod division at Kossuth County Speedway.

On Thursday night, things remained the same as Looft led 18 circuits of the 25-lap, $1,000 to win Wyffels Hybrid SportMod Special to highlight the evening of exciting dirt track racing.

Justin Klynsma and Dustin West led the SportMod field to flag-stand for the green flag in the feature as Klynsma took the early lead with the yellow flag appearing early. The caution flag reappeared one lap later and also on lap number six for spins as Klynsma continued to lead the race with the ninth starting Looft lurking and looking for his opportunity.

Lap number eight presented that chance and Looft moved to the front and pulled away from the field for his sixth feature win of the season at the track but his biggest payday so far.

Colby Fett was the runner-up with Klynsma taking third, Alec Fett was fourth and Ben Reierson was fifth.

Jeremy Mills was the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified winner, collecting his third checkers this season at Algona ahead of Nick Meyer and Cody Knecht.

Jay Sidles was the early leader in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature until the third lap, when 10th starting Mike Smith took over the top spot following a restart. Another yellow flag on lap seven brought the field back together before Smith captured his third feature win of the year at the track.

Chris Krug finished second as Brandon Nielsen placed third.

Donavon Smith has been having a nice season at the Kossuth County Speedway in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars but had not yet pulled his No. 35 into victory lane until Thursday evening.

Smith took full advantage of his outside front row starting spot to lead all 18 laps for his first local win of the season. McCain Jennings took second and Calvin Lange was third.

Trent Reed made his first trip to Algona this season a memorable one as he won the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature.

Brooke Olser held the lead the first four laps of the race before Reed grabbed the lead on lap five and went on to the victory. Osler placed second in the feature followed by Lucas Parsons.
