Shryock, DeVries are repeat winners at Kossuth County

ALGONA, Iowa (June 6) – Kelly Shryock and Kaytee DeVries both won for the for the second time this season at Kossuth County Speedway, in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and Mach-1 Sport Compact divisions, on June 6.

Shryock started on the outside of the fourth row as Derek Green was the early leader in the Stock car feature. Cautions on the eighth and 10th laps brought the 17-car field back together as Shryock slowly reeled in Green.

Shryock passed Green with two laps to go to park his no. 3 car in the winner’s circle for the second straight week at Algona.

DeVries had the early lead before an early incident that brought out the yellow flag and gave Megan Sandvig the front spot. 

DeVries battled back to the front to regain the lead and held off Jade Lange for the win.

Jacob Bleess was the IMCA Modified winner and 10th starting Leah Wroten topped the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main. Colby Fett was first to the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod checkers.

Burns, Opheim make long-awaited returns to victory lane

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (June 8, 2023) – It has been awhile since James Burns and Kevin Opheim have pulled their cars into victory lane as both drivers enjoyed that pleasure on Thursday to highlight an exciting night of dirt track racing at Kossuth County Speedway. Burns earned his first IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature win in the past three years and his second overall, while Opheim picked up win no. 60 in Algona in his career, but his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car first since June 7, 2018. The Hobby Stock feature saw Micah Lavrenz as the first car to go past the flag stand after the first lap as Doug Wickman took over the top spot two laps later. Wickman continued to hold the lead as an entertaining battle for second place was happening behind him between Mike Smith and Burns. Three straight wins for Monson at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (May 25, 2023) – Oliver Monson won his third straight feature while Matt Looft won for the second time this summer to highlight Night No. 3 at Kossuth County Speedway on Thursday. Monson won his third consecutive Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature, starting this one from the inside of the third row, but got a great start as he led all eight laps as the race went green, white, checkered. Lucas Parsons kept things interesting to take second but could not pass Monson and Charles Prime finished in third place. Looft had to work much harder to get his second Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod win of the season, coming from the outside of the fifth row for the win. Polesitter Alex Smith held the lead the first part of the race. The caution flag appeared on lap six and was followed by another yellow flag off the restart. Kossuth County to Salute Home Town Heroes on Veterans Night 

ALGONA, Iowa – Kossuth County Speedway’s salute to veterans on Home Town Heroes Night July 26 boasts $2,000 to win features for IMCA Modifieds, presented by Becks Hybrids, and for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, presented by Altenburg Construction/Slat Replacement Professionals. Both divisions have a $50 entry fee and are draw/redraw. Thursday’s Modified feature is a 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier and Harris Dash at the Clash qualifier. All weekly classes run and all points, including track, will be awarded. Veterans can show their ID to receive free grandstand admission or $10 off a pit pass. Pit gates open at 5:30 p.m. and racing follows 7 p.m. hot laps. Cars with patriotic wraps will be on display earlier in the day. More than $6,000 in prizes, including two limited edition Henry Golden Bay rifles, will be given in a drivers-only raffle.
