Oenning drives to first IMCA Late Model win at Donnellson

DONNELLSON, Iowa (June 2, 2023) – A busy night of IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing took place at the Lee County Speedway on Friday with Darkside Tint & Graphix helping to bring all the action. When the final checkered flag waved at 10:10 p.m., one driver had claimed his first career win, two drivers earned their first of the season at Donnellson and two more were repeat winners.

The 25-lap IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature saw Ed Hollenbeck and Blaire Barton lead the field to green. Hollenback led on lap one over Ray Raker and Sam Halstead. As Hollenbeck worked the bottom, Raker went to the top to try and get by.

On lap eight, Raker used the momentum off the top of turn four to grab the top spot away from Hollenbeck. Action was slowed on lap 15 when CJ Horn spun to bring out the yellow. On the restart, Raker jumped back out front, with Jason Oenning and Jeremy Pundt close behind.

Just after the lap was scored complete, Frank Mason spun to bring out another yellow. On the restart, Oenning grabbed the top spot away from Raker and then held on over the final laps to score his first career win.

Pundt was second, with Tommy Elston, Dennis Woodworth and Raker completing the top five.

Austen Becerra raced to his fourth local Friesen Performance IMCA Modified win of the season while Derrick Agee held off all challenges to claim his second IMCA Sunoco Stock Car win of 2023 at Lee County.

A week after getting career win number 100 in the Stock Car, John Oliver Jr. won for the first time since 2017 in a Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod and Brandon Reu motored to his first Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact victory of the season at Donnellson.

Coming up Friday, June 9, Lomont Molding will help bring the fourth of seven qualifying rounds of the Iowa Corn Growers Association IMCA Late Model Drive For 5, presented by Floyd’s Waste Systems, JJ Nichting Company Case IH Company, Ideal Ready Mix, Triple 777 Trucking, Woodworth Attorney at Law, Triple R Performance Engines, B&B Propane, Budweiser, Conrad Trucking, Donnellson Tire & Service, KQ92 and Big Country 103.1.

Also in action will be sanctioned Modifieds, Stock Cars, Northern SportMods and Sport Compacts.

Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and hot laps are at 7 p.m. with and racing to follow.

Halstead, Howes, Mather become new winners at Lee County

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (July 23) – After having a week off for the fair and another week off thanks to mother nature, Lee County Speedway was able to get back to racing action on Friday. Conn Communications provided all fans going into the grandstands a chance to take in the night’s racing action for only $3, with many fans taking advantage of the discounted prices.  At the end of the night the great crowd on hand got to witness three drivers earn their first win of the season at the track, while two others continued their winning ways. Multi-tasker Shryock tops Lee County IMCA Frostbuster feature

DONNELLSON, Iowa (April 11) – Kelly Shryock multi-tasked Wednesday night, mastering lapped traffic while outrunning Hunter Marriott in the IMCA Modified Frostbuster main event at Lee County Speedway. Shryock started fourth and led the last 21 of 25 circuits at Donnellson, taking the $1,000 checkers ahead of Marriott – up from 11th starting – and Cayden Carter. “I picked the smoothest lane and tried to be consistent,” Shryock said following his first win of the season and IMCA career 82nd. “I was lucky and had a good starting position. Hunter has been pretty fast and when he got to second it was ‘Oh boy, here we go,’ but I was able to hold him off.” Shryock ran the extreme high line going into the first turn and dropped down to the middle groove in the second set of turns, bringing Marriott along into traffic. “It’s fun to be able to negotiate through that stuff, knowing that you’ve got bogeys on your tail,” he said. Hanna, Becerra top opening night Drive For 5 features at Lee County

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (May 7, 2022) – Veteran Chuck Hanna and rookie Austen Becerra were IMCA Drive For 5 winners, while Dylan VanWyk took Drive For 3 honors at Lee County Speedway. All three earned $1,000 for their Saturday night efforts, Becerra’s checkers making him Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible as well. The 25-lap IMCA Sunoco Late Model Drive For 5 feature opened with Dustin Schram and Hanna leading the field to green. Schram led lap one, only to have Hanna power past to grab the top spot on lap two. The first and only caution of the race appeared on lap three and on the ensuing restart, Hanna jumped back out front with Denny Woodworth taking the runner-up spot. While Hanna set the fast pace out front, ninth starting Tommy Elston used lapped traffic to move into second. There was no catching Hanna, however, as he went on to claim the win.
