IMCA Late Models chase season’s first Sunoco bonus at Independence

By Jeremy Fox INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (May 1) – The first feature on the Saturday night program at Independence Motor Speedway saw Nate Albrant win his career-first Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod main event. Albrant took the top spot early, stayed strong on restarts and held off Brian Kauffman and Tony Olson to take the checkers. Logan Duffy edged veteran Curt Martin for the IMCA Sunoco Late Model victory and Rod McDonald hustled to the IMCA Modified checkers, leading start to finish in the 20-lapper and holding off a tenacious Mike Burbridge. Cole Mather was the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car winner and Luke Bird was best in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock headliner.

By Jeremy Fox INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (May 22) – Sean Johnson scored the IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature win and $250 Sunoco Race Fuels bonus Saturday at Independence Motor Speedway.  Johnson took the race lead after two early restarts and pulled away from Curt Martin, Logan Duffy and Travis Smock before the caution came out on lap 17 for debris. Johnson held on leading the last eight laps to take the feature win and the Sunoco Race Fuels bonus. Martin, Duffy, Smock and Austin Russell rounded out the top five.  Johnson’s victory was worth $850 in all. Jordan Hicks flexed his IMCA Modified muscles because not even the cautions on lap two or on lap 12 him from adding his name to the history books of feature winners in Indee. INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 29, 2023) – Another $250 Sunoco Race Fuels bonus will be awarded when IMCA Sunoco Late Models headline the Denny Osborn Memorial Wednesday, July 5 at Independence Motor Speedway. Division title sponsor Sunoco gives that bonus during the Buchanan County Fair event. Hot laps are at 6:45 p.m. with racing to follow. Late Models, Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods all race for $1,000 to win that evening, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $500 and Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts for $250.
