Grandstands open at Independence Motor Speedway this Saturday

By Jeremy Fox  INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (July 24) – Independence Motor Speedway raced to save lives on Saturday, hosting the Iowa Donor Network Night. Iowa Donor Network was on hand with info and for people to sign up as an organ donor. Drivers Prizes, Donation Honorees, Raffles, Prizes and Apparel for Sale plus the first 300 adults got a gift from Longhorn Steakhouse. A helmet and door signed by drivers auctioned off at Intermission along with a pass the helmet with all donations going to the Iowa Donor Network.  The first feature of the night was the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods. Kyle Olson and Nebraska’s Cameron Meyer led the field to the green flag with Olson taking the top spot early. Olson held off Brandon Tharp and Shane Paris until lap seven. By Jerry Mackey INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 13) – Saturday was a night for the record books at the Independ­ence Motor Speedway, with two bounties claimed and another set, plus hometowner Logan Duffy scored his first local win in the very tough IMCA Sunoco Late Model division.  A total of 124 drivers signed in do battle.  Duffy started racing at his local track by jumping right into the Late Model division at the age of 14 with veterans like Jeff Aikey, Curt Martin, Greg Kastli, Sean Johnson and many more. Under the watchful eye of his grandfather and IMS Hall of Famer Gary Crawford, Duffy scored the 25-lap feature win on Saturday night. Ben Seemann led early before Johnson took the point. Johnson led until a restart late in the race and that is when Duffy used the low line of the multi-grooved track to shoot into the lead. By Jerry Mackey  INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (Aug. 8) – Saturday saw the 2020 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Rac­ing season come to an end with the running of season championship races at Independence Mo­tor Speedway and several division titles were decided in dramatic fashion. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars came into the night with Leah Wroten holding a two-point ad­vantage over Tom Schmitt. Wroten needed to finish no more than two positions behind Schmitt to earn the season championship. With Phil Holtz racing out front and both Schmitt and Wroten headed to the front, Wroten was involved in a skirmish that sent her to the back of the 20-car field. Wroten then charged back to the front as a young lady on a mission. When the checkers flew it was Holtz taking the win with Schmitt in second, Kevin Rose was in third and Wroten raced all the way back to fourth.
