Inaugural Gil Short Memorial wraps up Maquoketa Speedway season

MAQUOKETA, Iowa (Sept. 23-24, 2022) – The 2022 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing season at Maquoketa Speedway came to a close with two big nights of racing Friday and Saturday. 

The Friday night racing program was headlined by the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds. The 25-lap feature saw Spencer Diercks race to the front from his fourth starting position and go on to score a very impressive $1,200 win. 

Diercks took the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible win ahead of Kelly Shryock and Jason Schueller. The Modified feature saw a star studded field of 21 drivers take the initial green flag.  

Twenty-one Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods took the green flag in their main event. Former national champion Tyler Soppe set sail on the top side and scored the win ahead of Levi Laymon and Jarrett Franzen.  

The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main event was won by Daniel Wauters. A recently purchased car and the combination of Wauters skills proved to be successful. Kile Vohringer was also in an unfamiliar car and raced from a 10th position start to take second.  

And on Saturday, the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars saw a photo finish with David Brandies taking the $750 win over local hot shoe Jacob Ellithorpe with the margin of victory of less than a foot. Brandies became B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational eligible with the win.

In the lineup chute, they scan every competitor wondering if one will continue the streak. Gage Neal made sure of that Saturday evening. The Ely ace is no stranger to victory lane, but made it to Maquoketa’s for the first time in 2018. He became the fifth different winner in five races on the 3/8-mile dirt oval. Timmy Current took off from the pole and looked as if he would run away with the top prize. He spun while leading and drove pit side. Maquoketa Speedway to host June 1 Stead Family Children’s Hospital Night

MAQUOKETA, Iowa – On Saturday, June 1, Trackside Promotions will hold a special night of racing at Maquoketa Speedway. It is to be declared UIHC Stead Family Children’s Hospital Night with special guest Ken Schrader. Mr. Jerre Stead was born and raised in Maquoketa. This will be the first major fundraiser since the opening of the Stead Family Children’s Hospital in 2017. Funds will be raised in Maquoketa, Trackside Promotion will be donating a portion of the front gate ticket sales, the Jackson County Fair Board will be donating percentage of the profit for the concessions and there will be a 50/50 raffle, along with a helmet collection by the drivers and their crews during intermission.  All former patients and their immediate family members will be admitted and seated in the reserved seating free of charge. Before the races start, the crowd will present the children with an in-person wave to honor them. T-shirts will be sold for this special event. Bodin, Nelson, Stamm, Richardson all score first Maquoketa wins 

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (Aug. 5, 2023) – Regular IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing returned to Maquoketa Speedway following the Jackson County Fair and several drivers scored their first-ever Maquoketa wins during a program that saw a huge field of 122 drivers take part in the action.  The IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature saw a new driver make his way to victory lane following the action-packed 25-lap feature. Jesse Bodin made the jump into the Late Models after racing a Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod the last few years. Bodin raced to the front from his third row start and went on to score his first-ever win at the Maquoketa Speedway topping a strong 21-car field.  Bodin took the win ahead of a couple of very strong weekly contenders at the Maquoketa Speedway. Dalton Simonsen nipped Andy Nezworski for second at the line.  Jeff Larson is closing in on a career milestone in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds and scored his 99th career feature win in the division on Saturday.
