Shebester becomes first repeat OCRS winner at 81 Speedway

Steven Shebester’s Saturday night victory at 81 Speedway made him the first repeat winner this season in Oil Capital racing Series action.

PARK CITY, Kans. (May 21, 2022) – It took eight events but a repeat winner has finally emerged in the AmeriFlex/Oil Capital Racing Series.

Steven Shebester, who won the March 4 IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car series season opener at Red Dirt Raceway, fought his way past a determined Kyle Clark and went on to win the 25-lap feature in a combined event with the Drive to Zero United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Saturday at 81 Speedway.  

Shebester started outside front row and gunned into the early lead. But fourth starting Kyle Clark drove around Shebester for the lead on lap 10. 

“He kept his momentum up and the lapped cars kept me bound up,” Shebester said of losing the lead to Clark. “I got a little worried when he passed me. But I just stayed steady and gained on him the next lap so I figured I would just stay where I was at and figured I would get him back and it went pretty good for me.” 

Shebester reeled Clark and took the lead back on lap 15. Shebester pulled away on the final laps for his 12th OCRS career victory. Clark held on to second for the second straight night. Clark had finished second at Tulsa Speedway on Friday. 

Sheldon Barksdale held on to third after starting on the pole.

Oil Capital Racing Series returns to Lawton Speedway on Saturday

(March 22) – After four nights of racing, the AmeriFlex/Oil Capital Racing Series for IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars travels southwest to Lawton Speedway on Saturday for the first time since 2017.  A total of 61 competitors have raced with the AmeriFlex/OCRS series to date this season and four different drivers have visited victory lane. In 2017, the AmeriFlex/OCRS visited Lawton three times and past champion Alex Sewell won twice, then finished second behind Andrew Deal.   Racing gets underway at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Shebester wins OCRS season opener

(March 4, 2022) – Steven Shebester led start to finish in Friday’s AmeriFlex Oil Capital Racing Series IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car season opener at Red Dirt Raceway, but the 25-lap distance was more grueling then Shebester expected.   “It was getting a little tough toward the end,” Shebester said about going the distance on opening day of the Red Dirt Raceway Spring Nationals. “Being the first race of the season, I got a little wore out. I need to get back into race shape.”  Part of the problem stemmed a fast tacky track that made for a very competitive field.   “The track was good,” Shebester said. “I came up on lapped traffic about 15 laps in and they were fast. Sewell becomes first Oil Capital repeat winner

(May 8) – Alex Sewell took the early lead away from pole sitter Whit Gastineau and became the season’s first repeat AmeriFlex/Oil Capital Racing Series IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature winner Saturday at Salina Highbanks Speedway.   The 2018 series champion led most of the way around the high banked 3/8’s mile oval while a battle raged behind him for second. Casey Wills, Gastineau, Ty Williams were battling before a red flag waved after 11 laps.  That changed the complexion of the race.
