Mid-Summer Classic brings two nights of action to Shawano

SHAWANO, Wis. (July 23-24) – Fans were given two opportunities to watch racing action at Shawano Speedway as the Mid-Summer Classic kicked off on Friday.

Mike Mullen was the story on opening night, picking up All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility wins in both the IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Stock Car divisions in very impressive fashion while Jayden Schmidt paced the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods.

Saturday would provide just as much action as Marcus Yarie, Jeffery Teske and Chucky Forstner found victory lane.

The Northern SportMods kicked action off with what looked to be another great run by Max Oreskovich jumping to the early lead. Oreskovich led the early part of the race with Schmidt giving him a
stiff challenge for the top spot. 

Jeff Schmuhl and Teske joined the battle up front. As the leaders entered turn one, Oreskovich’s engine expired, taking him to the outside wall and collecting Schmidt, who was able to continue after a trip to pit lane. 

Schmuhl also suffered mechanical issues during the caution and retired his car for the night. Meanwhile, Teske assumed the top spot on the restart and then drive off to a dominating win.

The Stock Cars took the track and it looked as if the race was over before it started as Travis Van Straten led the field to the green flag.

Van Straten jumped ahead early and built a lead. Forstner started in the fourth row and began to move forward and found himself in second a second and a half behind Van Straten. Forstner worked the high side as Van Straten stuck to the bottom. 

Forstner caught up with Van Straten and made his move to the outside, grabbing the top spot. Forstner cruised to the B & B Chassis All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility win. Van Straten took the runner-up spot with Jeremy Christians third and Trent Nolan fourth.

The Modifieds took off with Jerry Muenster and Yarie on the front row. Yarie would not let his top spot go to waste as he jumped to the front spot and led the 20-lap feature from green to checkers, becoming eligible for Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying. 

Wyatt Block rocketed to second. Johnny Whitman charged from his fifth row starting spot to grab third while Jerry Wilinski was fourth. Brekken Kleinschmidt advanced seven spots to fifth.

Oreskovich, Yarie, Nolan treated to Halloween at the Half Mile IMCA wins

SHAWANO, Wis. (July 15, 2023) – Racing was spooktacular and Max Oreskovich, Marcus Yarie and Trent Nolan were all spectacular in their respective IMCA feature wins during Shawano Speedway’s Saturday Halloween at the Half Mile show. In the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature, Dustin Marquardt and Shannon Fandrey paced the field to green but JJ Vanderloop quickly used his fourth starting spot to get past Marquardt for the lead. As laps continued to tick away, the machines of Oreskovich, Jeffery Teske and Tyler Sobiesczyk, were making a charge to the front. A yellow flag flew on lap nine which Oreskovich took advantage of and was a few car links away from Vanderloop. Sobiesczyk fell victim to mechanical issues and had to be surrender his spot and unfortunately ending his night. In the closing laps multiple drivers were all the potential winner. Shawano pays Saturday night tribute to Weisnicht

By Brandon Reichenberger SHAWANO, Wis. (Aug. 5, 2023) – Mother Nature provided a beautiful night for racing at the legendary half mile Shawano Speedway on Saturday. Opening ceremonies kicked off the action honoring long-time track worker and former racer Scott Weisnicht with “One Final Lap” as he carried the checkered flag in is no. 53 Camaro. Scott was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and to honor him and his contributions, Spectator Eliminators returned to compete in “One Lap for Weisnicht.” Travis Welch and Trent Nolan led the field to the green flag for the 20-lap IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. Nolan quickly took the lead with Shawn Wagner following Nolan through to second. Jeremy Christians made the pass on Welch to maintain third place. Behind them a fantastic three-car battle between Dylan Stedjee, Dan Michonski and Travis Van Straten was taking place. Wilinski, Forstner, Schmidt all repeat at Shawano

(Aug. 15) – It almost felt like déjà vu all over again Saturday as Konnor Wilkinski, Chucky Forstner and Jayden Schmidt returned to victory lane for the second week in a row at Shawano Speedway.   Lap one of the IMCA Modified feature saw Kevin Feck go from third to first to lead the field. As Feck led, Wilinski began to work through traffic after starting 10th. A caution after lap six bunched the field up and Wilinski capitalized, going from his third place restart position to the inside of Feck to snag the lead.   Wilinski did not look back as he drove to his second win of the year.  Feck finished in second and Marcus Yarie raced all the way from 18th to third.  Jeremie Hedrick would lead the early stages of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature while being pres­sured by Gary Kasperek and Forstner.  The trio went three-wide for the lead on lap four.  Hedrick still held the lead until lap six when Forstner utilized the inside groove [Read More]
