Good night for Knight ends with URSS checkers at 81

Tyler Knight had himself a night to remember, winning the June 19 United Rebel Sprint Series feature at 81 Speedway.

PARK CITY, Kan. (June 19) – The Drive to Zero POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing took to 81 Speedway on Saturday night and it was Tyler Knight cashing in the victor.

Chad Salem and Jon Freeman set the pace for the 25-lap IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature. Tyler Knight took off with the early lead with Jordan Knight and Ty Williams following. Zach Blurton began his march forward within the first five laps advancing position on J.D. Johnson and Jon Freeman to move into fourth.

The top three cars put some distance between one another until lapped traffic became a factor. Johnson and Freeman challenged each other for fifth, but it was Johnson pulling ahead. Jordan Knight and Williams gained ground however Tyler Knight continued as the race leader. 

Tyler Knight went on the claim victory with the Drive to Zero United Rebel Sprint Series, with Jordan Knight and Williams rounding out the podium. Hard charger Blurton and Johnson completed the top five finishers.

The Drive to Zero United Rebel Sprint Series will see a break in action before kicking off a hasty 10-race month in July. The series returns to action on Saturday, July 3 at “The Bullring” in LaCrosse, Kan., prior to spending Independence Day at Belleville High Banks in Belleville, Kan.

Blurton tops URSS finale at Oberlin Bob Salem Memorial

OBERLIN, Kan. (Aug. 14-15) – The runner-up on opening night was the winner on night two, when the Mel Hambelton Ford Racing Lucas Oil POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series traveled to Oberlin Speedway for the Bob Salem Memorial. Zach Blurton topped the Saturday show for IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars after passing Koby Wal­ters for the front spot on the 14th of 25 circuits. Jake Martens, Walters, Monty Ferriera, and Jed Werner rounded out the top five.  Monty Ferriera took off with the early lead and stretched his advantage to about eight car-lengths before slipping off of the track and passing the lead position to Walters. Lap 14 found Blurton riding around the top of turn two to get past Walters for the lead while Ferri­era worked his way back into fourth. URSS starts season Saturday at Dodge City

DODGE CITY, Kan. – Last week’s originally scheduled season opener at 81 Speedway for the Drive to Zero POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing was postponed due to inclement weather. As a result, the season is now slated to kick off this Saturday, April 24 at Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kan.  The 3/8-mile semi-banked clay oval opens this year under new management. Long-time Sprint Car driver Craig Dollansky and his team have devoted hours of time and enhancements to the facility leading up to the season. A great field of cars is expected as drivers and teams look forward to racing under the new improvements and promoter.  Hot laps are scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday with the green flag flying over competition at 7 p.m. Grandstand admission is $10 with kids 12 and under admitted free of charge.  The United Rebel Sprint Series will also award last year’s competitors with their respective trophies during or after the competition Saturday night.    The series has partnered with the Drive to Zero [Read More]

Rain nixes holiday weekend doubleheader for Rebels

By David Smith Jr./OKTidbits  OBERLIN, Kan. – The big weekend Memorial Day weekend doubleheader planned for Saturday and Sunday for the Lucas Oil POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing at Longdale Speedway in Longdale, Oklahoma and 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas has been postponed by rain.  Saturated grounds and the threat for more rain through the weekend has caused series and track officials to reschedule events for the URSS and the Sprint Series of Oklahoma presented by Smiley’s Racing Products.   The rescheduled events for both IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car series is now set for Friday night, June 21, at 81 Speedway and Saturday night, June 22, at Longdale Speedway.
