PASS returns to Port Royal for Memorial Weekend show

PORT ROYAL, Pa. – The storyline basket is overflowing as the Pennsylvania Sprint Series heads to Port Royal Speedway Saturday to join the program for Night One of the Bob Weikert Memorial. 

For starters, the May 29 show is set to be the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car series’ 10th race of 2021 and so far there have been no repeat winners. Five of those previous winners are expected to be at the Port, including Garrett Bard, who presents another choice story. 

The 2020 national and PASS champion, Bard earned his first 2021 win last weekend at Selinsgrove Speedway, and a win at Port Royal would move him into sole possession of second place among PASS winners there. The win would be his seventh, breaking a tie with Tyler Bear behind all-time wins leader Jeff Miller, who has a dozen PASS wins at the Juniata County oval. 

Overall, half a dozen teams planning to be on hand Saturday are past Port Royal winners. Those 2021 and past Port winners are an impressive group, but the potential winners list for Saturday hardly ends there, as drivers like Doug Dodson, Christian Rumsey, Dom Melair, Erin Statler, Kenny Heffner, Mikell McGee, Kassidy Kreitz and others hope to show. 

Gates open at 4 p.m. Saturday with racing scheduled for 7 p.m. Adult general admission tickets are $25 ($10 for students) and pit passes are $35.

Duke adds BAPS to dream season

(Aug. 25) – Ken Duke Jr. is enjoying a season most racers can only dream about, winning races and leading both the Pennsylvania Sprint Series and national IMCA Rac­eSaver Sprint Car point standings, but one track was conspicuously missing from the top tier of his 2019 resume: BAPS Motor Speedway. Second chance precedes Walp’s first PASS win

YORK HAVEN, Pa. (May 18) – Second chances don’t always happen, so when John Walp got one Saturday night at BAPS Motor Speedway, he took full advantage, leading from start to finish and winning the 20-lap PA Sprint Series feature.  It was Walp’s first feature win. Walp had spun out while leading Friday night’s IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature at Clinton County Speedway, so getting another chance at a front-row starting spot was too good to pass up.  Walp grabbed the lead from fellow front-row starter Jaremi Hanson and held Hanson at bay to score a 2.319-second victory. “The car was awesome,” an emotional Walp said in victory lane. “The track held moisture all night. Spahr sets PASS record with fifth straight win

By Frank Buhrman SELINSGROVE, Pa. (May 20, 2023) – Technically, it took two days. Logan Spahr’s quest to become the first River Valley Builders Pennsylvania Sprint Series driver to win five feature races in a row started late Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway and ended with the checkered flag falling on the Lewisberry driver and his Eshenaur Racing no. 5 IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car just seconds after midnight. In a non-stop feature that took barely six-and-a-half minutes to run, Spahr had accomplished what no one else had done in 25 years of PASS competition, and it wasn’t easy. Even with an advantageous third-place starting slot for the 20-lap feature, Spahr was looking at two-time PASS champion, 2019 IMCA RaceSaver national champ and hometown veteran Ken Duke in front of him, along with fast-improving Croix Beasom. Duke got the jump on Beasom to lead into the first turn as the race started with Spahr quickly moving into second.
