Cochrun gets confidence boost and $1,000 from IMCA STARS Mod Lite win at Cocopah

SOMERTON, Ariz. (April 10) – Californian Kaden Cochrun got a big confidence boost and a check for $1,000 for his fourth straight IMCA STARS Mod Lite win in Arizona.

The national points leader pocketed a grand for his Saturday Yuma Auto and RV Night victory at Cocopah Speedway. He’d started ninth, passed A.J. Whisler for the lead on the fourth circuit and led to the end of the 25-lapper.

Cochrun led by almost a straightaway before the green, white, checkered finish. J.D. Brown was second and Colin Bender third.

“I raced with some of the fastest dudes in Arizona,” said Cochrun, headed next to Bethany, Mo., to spend the summer racing in the Midwest. “It was a huge confidence booster to run so good here.” 

He’d won twice at Arizona Speedway and once at Canyon Speedway Arizona before taking the Cocopah checkers. 

Cochrun had raced in the Midwest last season when many of the tracks in his home state were idled by Covid-19. He’ll race at tracks in Iowa and Kansas, as well as Missouri and possibly in Illinois this year. 

“Some of the best racers are in the Midwest,” he stated. “You only get better when you’re racing the best people.”

2023 IMCA.TV Winter Nationals open with a bang!

(Jan. 4, 2023) – Wednesday was opening night of the 2023 IMCA.TV Winter Nationals at Cocopah Speedway and the 3/8-mile oval, known as the Diamond In The Desert, attracted over 230 race teams from across North America to compete in the winter extravaganza.  Arizona native Tim Ward won the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature and $1,000 while Minnesotan Jim Horejsi topped the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature and pocketed $750. Defending Winter Nationals king Shane Paris took the $750 Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod checkers, Thomas Daffern scored the $500 IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock victory and Kevin Reuter raced to the $250 Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact win. In Modified action, the 25-lap feature started with Brandon Beckendorf flexing his guns early and dominating before a lap eight caution bunched the field up.  When the green flag was redisplayed, Ward put a power move on Brandon for the lead. Bombardo, Partain, Dotson, Spangler get wins in fast-paced IMCA.TV Winter Nationals features

SOMERTON, Ariz. (Jan. 14) – Brandon Bombardo, Bo Partain, Ethan Dotson and Aaron Spangler all took their turns in victory lane during the course of 85 consecutive caution-free laps on night five of the IMCA.TV Winter Nationals at Cocopah Speedway.  Bombardo led start to finish in an IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature last interrupted by a caution with 10 laps to go. Partain and Dotson duplicated that flag-to-flag feat in 25-lap Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod and IMCA Modified main events, respectively. Spangler then inherited the front spot 11 laps into the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature after leader Kyle Heckman drove off with a flat tire. He held off Andy Altenburg to the end of a third consecutive green to checkered 25-lapper.  Joshua Cordova and then Matt Olson headed the pursuit of Bombardo before 10th starting Mitchell Mohler Sr. charged into second with seven laps left. Mari, Black are best at Cocopah’s Winter Nationals Hangover

SOMERTON, Ariz. (Jan. 29-30) – Lance Mari outran everybody on opening night for his first IMCA Modified feature win of the season before Tanner Black collected his third Cocopah Speedway checkers of the month, on night two of the Winter Nationals Hangover.  Mari drew Friday’s pole start and led all 25 laps in Friday’s $1,000 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying victory at Somerton. The final caution waved with eight to go and Darrell Hughes II chased fellow Californian Mari across the stripe. “Everything ran pretty well.
