Mills tunes up with IMCA Modified checkers at Park Jeff

Chris Mills tuned up for this weekend’s Iron Cup with the Saturday night IMCA Modified feature win at Park Jefferson Speedway.

JEFFERSON, S.D. (Aug. 1) – A beautiful blue sky greeted drivers and fans as Park Jefferson driver warmed up for Aug. 7-8 and the Iron Cup with a great fast night of racing at Park Jefferson Speedway on Turner Plumbing Night.

In the IMCA Modifieds, it was Chris Mills who took the top spot after a handful of cautions slowed the 20-lap affair. Mills was able to come from mid-pack to run away with the checkers. 2019 cham­pion Bob Moore showed well as he was a strong second and Sean Barragan rushed in straight from a wedding to take third.

In the IMCA RaceSaver Sprints, it was Colin Smith returning to the site of two track champion­ships to whip the rest of the field. Smith has ventured around the area this year and took a comforta­ble win with Danny Nekoite second and Jesse Lindberg third.

Veterans Travis Barker and Ryan Harris put on a show for the fans in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main. The two longtime Siouxland combatants raced nose to tail with Bo Lundquist mixing it up the entire way.

Harris finally got the jump on Barker in the waning laps and took the win while Barker lost the top groove and ended up 10th. Lundquist roared back for second and Greg Taylor picked up third.

Cody Thompson parked n victory lane following the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature. Thompson came from mid-pack to pick up the win over Rusty Montagne and John Foreman. Monta­gne has been working on a new setup and it will be interesting to see who can take the Iron Cup.

In the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Andy Hoffman returned to victory lane. Hoffman who had a challenging night a few weeks ago, was able to utilize the front row starting spot to win over a strong running Blake Arends and Jay Devries.

And in the Mach-1 Sport Compacts, it was Connor Brown showing the way for a good win over William Reed and Kaytee DeVries.

The seventh annual running of the famed Iron Cup is Friday, Aug. 7 and Saturday, Aug. 8. IMCA Modifieds will be running for $7,000 to win and a 2021 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth in Saturdays feature with their Friday heats being used to set the lineup. The rest of the divisions will run complete shows with Sport Compacts only running Friday and Sprint Cars only on Satur­day.

Gates open at 5 p.m. both days with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. and racing to follow.

IMCA points, All-Star race bonus pay on the line at Park Jefferson’s Iron Cup

JEFFERSON, S.D. – A pair of Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying features for IMCA Modifieds are on the Sept. 14 and 15 Iron Cup schedule at Park Jefferson Speedway. IMCA Modifieds run for $1,000 to win and $140 to start on Friday in the makeup event for the Sjogrensen Winery bonus. IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars both race for $600 to win while Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks race for $400 to win and Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $100 to win on opening night of the fifth annual special. Top checks on Saturday are $1,000 for the Modi­fieds, Sprint Cars and Stock Cars, $700 for the Northern SportMods and Hobby Stocks and $300 for the Sport Com­pacts. Park Jefferson’s inaugural IMCA SportMod Horsepower Nationals pay $5,000 to win

JEFFERSON, S.D. (June 14, 2022) – Park Jefferson Speedway, along with Wayne Becker and Premier Industries, are pleased to announce the first-ever $5,000 to win Heartland Horsepower Nationals for Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods June 20-21.  The format will follow the popular Iron Cup format.  On Monday, drivers will draw for two complete heat race lineups. Each heat will pay $40 to win. Points will be accumulated and lock the top 10 drivers into the next night’s main event lineup.  On Tuesday, twin “B” features line up the next 10 spots on the main event grid before a last-chance qualifier sees all remaining competitors battle for the final four spots in the Premier Industries-sponsored main event.   In addition, both Monday and Tuesday cards include a full IMCA program with heats and features for the Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts. Modified features pay $700 to win while Stock Car, Hobby Stock and Sport Compact features pay $500. Roth sweeps Spring Nationals with twin $1,000 IMCA Modified feature wins

JEFFERSON, S.D. (May 8-9) – Anthony Roth brought the broom to Park Jefferson Speedway, sweeping $1,000 to win Spring Nationals features for IMCA Modifieds on May 8 and 9.  The 2019 Nebraska State champion and already a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational candidate, Roth started from the pole and rumbled away to the opening night win after holding off challenges from track regular Chris Abelson and Colorado invader Ricky Alvarado.  Front row starters Jesse Skalicky and Daniel Gottschalk got things off to a roaring start on Saturday, sliding and shooting for the lead while Shane DeMey joined the fray. Roth then threw a go for broke slide in turn three entering in the fourth position and exited in first. It was a position he would not relinquish. DeMey was second and hard-charging Tyler Frye was third. Shane Stutzman outran hard-charging rookie Justin Luinenburg and Taylor Williams for the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car win on Friday.
