Doing double duty at Dodge City, Kaup captures Stock Car Shootout

DODGE CITY, Kan. (July 18) – Jeff Kaup has done his fair share of winning at Dodge City Race­way Park in recent years. 

However, on Saturday night, the Woodward, Okla., racer did it for the first time in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car Ranks by taking the $1,000 winner’s share in a hard-fought Stock Car Shootout presented by Winner’s Circle Feedyards and Factory Direct Fireworks atop the 3/8-mile DCRP clay oval.

Kaup has accumulated 20 feature wins while earning six IMCA SportMod championships over the past seven years at Dodge City.  This year, Kaup is pulling double-duty in both the SportMods and Stock Cars. 

And with the big money on the line Saturday evening, Kaup emerged from a wild battle to ulti­mately take the win in the 25-lapper.

With several contenders running afoul of misfortune throughout the first half of the race, it ulti­mately boiled down to a three-way battle between Chris Oliver, Shaylon Holloway and Kaup. 

Oliver led much of the way while nursing a flattened left front tire until finally surrendering the point to Holloway on the 15th circuit.  The trio continued to battle with Kaup making his way for­ward and finding his way to the lead for keeps on the 22nd lap. 

Kaup held off Holloway over the final circuits to post the win with Marlin Hogie moving up to third and then Mike Burian and A.J. Finch rounding out the top five. 

While Kaup collected the big Stock Car loot, Koby Walters bested the DCRP Sprint Cars, Clay Sellard topped the IMCA Modifieds, Brett Berry was best in the IMCA SportMods and Trevor Schmidt collected IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock hardware as all five drivers posted their first DCRP wins of the 2020 campaign.

Driver Appreciation Night is Friday at Dodge City Raceway Park

(July 23) – Among the most anticipated racing nights of the year at Dodge City Raceway Park is in store with a special Friday night card this week featuring the annual Lewis Automotive Drivers’ Appreciation Night. The Friday night special at the state-of-the-art 3/8-mile clay oval in southwest Kansas features a full card of championship chase racing action including Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks with the green flag flying at 7:30 p.m. And not only do the drivers get in on the pageantry this year, fans receive a number of giveaways over the course of the evening as well. Last year’s Drivers’ Appreciation Night attracted more than 5,000 people as drivers were awarded a number of tickets to distribute to family, friends and sponsors. An even bigger turnout is expected this year. Bubak back in Dodge City form in DCRP Sprint Car Nationals opener

(Aug. 20) – Colorado’s Jake Bubak picked up right where he left off last year by wiring the field in Thursday night’s 25-lap feature to get the fourth annual Lubbock Wrecker Service DCRP Sprint Car Nationals under way atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval. Last year, Bubak swept through all three nights to collect more than $6,000 as he became the third different event winner in as many years. And he may have led all 25 laps on Thursday night, but he certainly had to earn it as John Carney II pressured throughout and even slid into the lead briefly on a couple of occasions along the way only to have Bubak successfully counter.  After drawing the second row inside for the feature event after a heat race win, fortune was on Bubak’s side from the outset with scheduled pole starter Koby Walters scratching from the main event. Back-to-Front Challenge returns to Dodge City on Friday night

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. – The Back-to-Front Challenge is back at this Friday night’s Dodge City Raceway Park Driver & Fan Appreciation Night.  And a lucky fan could walk away from the night’s races with an extra $10,000.  The always popular Driver & Fan Appreciation Night continues July 24 at the 3/8-mile clay oval in Southwest Kansas with fans admitted for $5 with a ticket from a driver.  Otherwise, general admission is $12. Drivers and fans alike will be treated to all variety of giveaways throughout the night of racing that includes the Hambelton Racing DCRP Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. To cap the evening off, if a selected driver can race from the 20th starting position in his feature event to take the win then a lucky fan holding the winning ticket can win $10,000.  Friday marks the fourth round of championship chase action at Dodge City Raceway Park.
