COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 4) – The roar of the engines returned to Cottage Grove Speedway for the Fourth of July and John Campos took care of business in the much-anticipated IMCA Modified main event.

Campos seized the initial lead over the rest of the field, slowed only by three stoppages, and 0n each restart he managed to keep back all contenders to lead the distance for his first feature win of 2020. 

Defending Shaw Race Cars Western region champion Bricen James was the runner-up while Steven Sturdevant got third.  

Shawn Hand was quick in the early stages of the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod race.  The Springfield chauffeur led the first two trips past the flag stand before being overtaken by Art Hiatt, who then blazed the trail the balance of the distance.

Doug Coffman got second with David Schmidt behind him in third. 

In the debut for Mach-1 Sport Compacts, Chloe Van Sandt worked her way to the lead on the initial start and stayed there until lap three, when Barry Cannon made his way past.

Cannon remained the leader until the 13th trip to the line when Cole Trissell passed him.  Trissell, went unchallenged the rest of the way to win the main event. Chris Lemon got second while Van Sandt was third.

Cottage Grove fans applaud Mayden, Schmidt, Martin

(May 22) – Fans had the IMCA winning efforts of Jake Mayden, David Schmidt and Brad Martin to appreciate on Fan Appreciation Night Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway. The IMCA Modifieds had an action-packed, 25-lap feature. Jeffrey Hudson stormed to the front at the drop of the initial green flag and remained out in front for quite a bit of time until Mayden overtook him on lap 19.  Mayden fended off a hard-charging Bricen James to earn his second consecutive win in the class. Curtis Towns ended the night third, Matthew Drager came to the line in fourth with fifth going to Chad Groves.  Jordan Henry was the initial leader in the 20-lap Royalty Core Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod main event. Henry stayed there for most of the first half of the race but eventually was overtaken after a re­start. Schmidt was the one to perform the pass after starting 14th and secured the top place position on lap nine.   Schmidt wasn’t entirely out of the woods yet as he had to deal with [Read More]

Williamson wins first of season at Freedom Cup

(July 5) – Jesse Williamson raced to his first Mohawk Metal IMCA Modi­fied feature win of the season on the second night of Cottage Grove Speedway’s Freedom Cup.  Paul Rea set the tone early, blazing the trail the first four laps before Grey Ferrando took control. Ferrando navigated his machine in the top spot until lap nine. Williamson was the one to make the pass, driving his younger brother Kevin’s car, and held on for the balance of the distance for his first victory of the year. Collen Winebarger ended his evening in second while Bricen James posted a third-place re­sult.  Finishing fourth was Rea and rounding out the top five was Jake Mayden. The Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature began with Jimmy Ford showing the way.  Ford battled hard with Aaron Bloom for some time. Williamson dominates at Cottage Grove

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 8) – Kevin Williamson dominated the Mohawk Metal IMCA Modi­fied main event Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway. Williamson grabbed the top spot on lap four and never gave it back to win his first ever Modified race. Jake Mayden was second and Paul Rea third. In the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods a number of different drivers paced the field but it was Jorddon Braaten obtaining the lead on lap 15 with a late-race pass. Braaten parked his mount in victory lane for the second occasion of the 2019 season at Cottage Grove. Braedon Hand and Doug Coffman were next across the stripe.
