URSS win at 81 is career first for Johnson

PARK CITY, Kan. (June 7) – Third-generation driver Kyler Johnson took advantage of his front row starting position and led flag-to-flag to claim his first career Mel Hambelton Ford Racing POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series feature Sunday night at 81 Speedway. 

Johnson and John Carney started on the front row for the 25-lap IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature with Johnson taking the lead as the green flag fell. 

Johnson, son of former URSS competitor C.J. Johnson, kept the field behind him before entering lapped traffic on lap nine. Carney closed the deficit yet Johnson made quick work of slower cars and stayed out front from there.

Last season’s touring rookie of the year went on to claim the first sprint car victory of his young career with Carney settling for second. J.D. Johnson came home third while Shane Sundquist and two-time and defending tour champion Zach Blurton rounded out the top five. 

The URSS will now set its sights on RPM Speedway in Hays, Kan., this Saturday and Sunday night, June 13-14 for the annual Mike Hughes Memorial Sunflower Classic.

URSS heads to Dodge City for 305 Nationals this weekend

DODGE CITY, Kan.  – One of the highlights on the 2018 United Rebel Sprint Series takes place this coming Friday and Saturday, June 15 and 16 as the Rebels head to Dodge City Raceway Park for the second annual Lubbock Wrecker Service 305 Sprint Car Nationals.” The tour will be joined by the track’s Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars for two nights of fast-paced sprint car action. Friday night’s feature payout will be at least $500 for the winner and $125 to start the finale. All non-qualifiers earn $100. Saturday night’s feature finale winner will earn a cool $3,000 and could earn up to $4,500 with lap money in play as well. Starting the twenty-four-car championship fea­ture finale will take home $600 while all non-qualifiers earn $150. United Rebel Sprint Series on Wheatshocker Nationals card at RPM

HAYS, Kan. – The Mel Hambelton Ford Racing POWRi United Rebel Series will gear up for the 12th annual Wheatshocker Nationals at RPMS in Hays on July 11 and 12. This race has been a staple on the URSS schedule since 2008. The Sunday portion of the event will pay $2,000 to win and a minimum of $200 to start. Gates will open at 4 p.m. each day with hot laps slated to begin shortly after 6 p.m. and green flag action at 7 p.m.

United Rebel Sprint Series heads to Dodge City for Saturday showdown

By David Smith Jr., OKTidbits  DODGE CITY, Kan. – The POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing kicks back into racing action this coming Saturday night, June 1 as they make their se­cond appearance of the season at Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kan., in a showdown with the track’s Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Car division.   This event will be a tune-up for the upcoming third annual Lubbock Wrecker Service DCRP 305 Sprint Car Nationals that are set to take place June 13-15.  Brian Herbert will come into the night’s racing action as the current point leader while two-time and defending tour champion Zach Blurton is just four-points behind.  Drivers making up positions three through 10 in the early season point standings include Kade Hagins, Tracey Hill, Aaron Ploussard, Dalton Webb, Martens, Andy Shouse, Steven Richardson and Brandon Anderson.   Twenty-eight drivers competed in that first event back in April at Dodge City and officials expect about that many this weekend for the $700 to win feature finale.
