URSS slated for Western Kansas doubleheader June 27, 28

HAYS, Kan. – After last week’s three races in six days, the United Rebel Sprint Series will next head this Saturday and Sunday, July 14 and 15 to the 10th running of the Wheatshocker Nationals at RPM Speedway in Hays, Kan., for their opening weekend of the Ellis County Fair. Oklahoma’s Andy Shouse took home top honors in last years event, collecting the $2000 winner’s share and also taking home the custom Pit Boss Pellet Grille furnished by Lance Pittmann of S&W Supply/Federated Auto Parts of Hays for being the top point earner of the two-day event. This year’s event will once again pay $2,000 to the winner with $200 to start in Saturday’s championship feature. Pittman will once again furnish a custom Pit Boss Pellet Grille to the overall high point driver of the two-day show. COLBY, Kan. – Thomas County Speedway will host its season opener this Friday, June 5 at the 3/8-mile speedplant. In action will be IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts.   Pit gates open at 5 p.m. with grandstands opening at 6:30 p.m. General admission tickets cost $10 for adults with children ages 12 and under admitted free when accompanying a paid adult.  Racing action continues on Friday, June 12 with the same divisions and start times, before leading into a big doubleheader weekend June 26 and 27.   The Friday night, June 26 card will again see sanctioned Modifieds, Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks, Northern SportMods and Sport Compacts in action. The Saturday, June 27 card changes pace and welcomes the United Rebel Sprint Series as part of a one-of-a-kind show that’s never been seen before at Thomas County Speedway. (July 14) – Continuing on his hot streak, Jake Bubak took the lead with eight laps left of the 30-lap feature and went on to claim the 11th annual Wheatshocker Nationals as the Lucas Oil POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing wrapped up the two-race weekend Sunday night atop the RPM Speedway oval. Bubak used a slower car to put a cushion between himself and Jed Werner in the final laps and claim his fifth series victory on the season.
