Four race dates in Canyon’s IMCA Winter Challenge

PEORIA, Ariz. – Four IMCA divisions race all four dates in the 2020 Winter Challenge at Canyon Speedway Park.

IMCA Modifieds run for $1,250 to win and a minimum of $125 to start Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying features on Saturdays and Sundays Jan. 25-26 and Feb. 1-2.

IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods both vie for $1,000 to win and a minimum of $100 to start. IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks run for $500 to win and a minimum of $75 to start. 

IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional and E3 Spark Plugs State points will be awarded. Pill draws are $50 for Modifieds, $40 for Stocks and SportMods, and $30 for Hobbies.

Front gates open at 11 a.m. and racing starts at 1 p.m. each day. Grandstand admission is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and military and free for kids ages 11 and under. Pit passes are $35, $20 for children ages 7-11 and free for six and under.

Open practices on Fridays Jan. 24 and Jan. 31 run from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Entry to the grandstand is free. Pit passes are $25 or free for ages 11 and under. 

Waiver forms for all children must be completed at the gate for pit entry to practice or race nights.

Self-contained camping is available at no cost during the Winter Challenge.

Parmeley prevails at Canyon

(April 1) – John Parmeley pulled off the sweep in the Leading Edge IMCA Modi­fieds Saturday at Canyon Speedway Park, winning his heat race before driving from his sixth start­ing spot to take the feature win. Parmeley declared himself as the car to beat early on, making his way around leader K.C. Dieckman and driving away from the field. Parmeley held the large advantage through numerous cautions until Jason Noll found himself behind the leader on a restart. Parmeley and Noll escaped the fray with only a handful of laps to go to battle it out for the win. Noll made the first mistake coming to the white flag, allowing Parmeley to get away with the win. Noll held on for second with Zachary Madrid, Chaz Baca Jr. and Bubba Stafford rounding out the top five. Speedy Madrid wound up with the Arizona Differential IMCA Northern SportMod victory after the apparent winner failed post-race tech.

IMCA Modified features get top billing for Canyon’s holiday weekend show

PEORIA, Ariz. (Aug. 27) – A pair of $1,000 to win IMCA Modified features are on the docket for Canyon Speedway Park’s Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 1 and 2 Labor Day Weekend special. Both 25-lap events are qualifiers for the 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot and pay a minimum of $100 to start. Entry fee each night is $25. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars race 20 laps for $500 to win with a $20 entry fee on Saturday while Sunday’s 100-lap marathon pays $1,000 to win and has a $50 entry fee. The 20-lap IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature on Saturday pays $250 to win with a $20 pill draw; Sunday’s 30-lapper pays $500 to win with a $25 pill draw. Wolla outruns Marriott for Dirt Dominator win at Canyon 

By Mike Spieker PEORIA, Ariz. (Feb. 13) – The Karl Performance Arizona IMCA Modified Tour made its way to Canyon Speedway Park Tuesday for a practice night in preparation for rounds five and six. Follow­ing the night’s test and tune session was the second round of the Dirt Dominator bracket race. The final round came down to a heavyweight matchup between defending IMCA Modified na­tional champion, Jason Wolla, and defending tour point champion Hunter Marriott. Marriott won the coin toss for lane choice and elected the inside line, which was where the major­ity of the rounds were won throughout the event. That didn’t matter to Wolla, however. Marriott and Wolla got the green flag down the backstretch and were door-to-door into turns three and four. Wolla put his no. 27 machine up on the cushion and used his momentum to carry him to the lead on the front straightaway.
