Winebarger ties Wild West Shootout record with fourth win of season

LEBANON, Ore. (June 28) – Collen Winebarger put his name in the Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout record book Friday night.

Winebarger’s fourth series win of 2019 came at Willamette Speedway and matched the record set by Brian Poppa (2011) and first equaled by Kellen Chadwick (2016). 

Pole starter Winebarger stayed out front and out of trouble from the get-go Friday despite five stoppages. He was pressured late by Jesse Williamson, who bicycled hard in the first set of turns and eventually Jesse pulled off the track.

Chadwick, Justin Duty, Grey Ferrando and Matt Jenner made up the rest of the final five. 

Lebanon saw the biggest car count of the week with 48 drivers assembled in the pits representing five states and British Columbia.

Winebarger’s  win was also his Wild West Modified Tour career seventh, second on the all-time list. Williamson’s 12 victories lead the way in that department.

Williamson wins opening night of Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout at Willamette

(Aug. 6) – Four-time series champion Jesse Williamson was the winner Friday night as the Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout returned for the first time since June 29, 2019.  The site of that last appearance was at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon. That would be the venue to host the opening leg of the 2021 schedule. At the beginning of the 40-lap, $1,000 to win main event, Williamson took the top place position on the opening start. After that, the field underwent a long twenty-three-lap green flag run, bringing some traffic into play. Williamson was briefly harassed by some contenders but managed to carve his way through lapped traffic. Cottage Grove win is third of Wild West Shootout for Winebarger

(June 25) – The late-race scenario was the same Tuesday but this time Col­len Winebarger held Kellen Chadwick in check to win the Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout feature at Cottage Grove Speedway.  Chadwick had reeled in Winebarger in lapped traffic late for the Monday victory at Cottage Grove. Winebarger caught up with the back of the pack again on Tuesday, but held on to earn his third tour feature of the week and another $1,000.  Chadwick was a close second while Jake Mayden ended his evening in third. Bricen James col­lected a fourth while posting a fifth-place result was Gus Cooper.  Cooper had motored his way to the front of the field in the opening laps before getting passed on lap four by Mayden. Southern Oregon win to Winebarger on night two of Wild West Modified Shootout

(June 22) – Another defending race winner was first to the checkers, on night two of the Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout Collen Winebarger topped Saturday’s main event at Southern Oregon Speedway, gaining a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth with the $1,000 victory, his series second in a row at White City.  Kellen Chadwick took full advantage of his pole starting spot, taking the lead early and remaining there much of the race. Chadwick cruised until the culminating laps when he was briefly barri­caded by traffic. Winebarger managed to cut down Chadwick’s lead and for the first time in the feature put signifi­cant pressure on the leader. The two battled briefly until lap 33 when Winebarger edged out in front.
