Season opener tonight at Buena Vista Raceway

ALTA, Iowa – Pit gates and the grandstand open at 5 p.m. today (Wednesday) for the season opener at Buena Vista Raceway. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts are on the draw/redraw card. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional, state and track points will be awarded.  Hot laps are at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. Pit passes are $25 for adults, $15 for kids ages 6-10 and free for five and under. Spectator admission is $10 for adults, $5 for seniors 65 and over, veterans and students ages 13-18, and free for kids 12 and under and active military personnel.  Tonight’s race program at Alta will be broadcast by Advantage Racing TV, part of the IMCA.TV net­work.

New promoter will keep building on solid IMCA foundation at Buena Vista Raceway

ALTA, Iowa – With a firm midweek foundation in place, new promoter Trent Chinn plans to keep building on to the IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing program at Buena Vista Raceway. Chinn takes over the Wednesday night speedplant at Alta, sanctioned by IMCA for 30-plus seasons. “This track really started to come back to its glory days under (previous promoter) Joey Ciechanowski,” said Chinn, who saw much of the country while crewing for Tim Ward and Ricky Thornton Jr. “This is already a very nice facility. Abelson captures Dirt Knight Tour bounty at BVR

ALTA, Iowa (July 24) – Add a new title to Chris Abelson’s racing resume: Bounty hunter. Abelson led all 30 laps of Wednesday’s Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour main event at Buena Vista Raceway, earning $2,000 for the IMCA Modified feature victory plus the $500 bounty of­fered to the driver who could stop Richie Gustin’s series streak. Abelson drew the pole and tussled with California challenger Cody Laney before and after re­starts on the 18th circuit.  The last 12 laps ran green. Laney stayed close but had to settle for second. Gustin, chasing a record fourth straight tour victory, started seventh and finished third.  Completing the top five were in the Al Ritts Memorial race were Joel Rust and Kelly Shryock. Hard charger Craig Reetz started 10th and finished 10th. Abelson was already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Smith starts new Kyle Suter Memorial win streak

ALTA, Iowa (July 3) – David Smith started a new streak Wednesday night at Buena Vista Race­way. Smith led the last eight circuits in topping the Kyle Suter Memorial for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars at Alta. He’s now won the event “eight or nine times,” including a streak of five in a row from 2013-2017.  “This is always a good one to win,” said Smith, who banked $1,500 following the victory, also the fourth installment of the Arnold Motor Supply Midwest Madness Tour. “It’s getting harder to win any more. The competition is so good.” Pole starter Brian Blessington led early before giving way to Smith’s brother Devin. After a side-by-side battle, David pulled ahead following a restart with eight laps left in the 25-lapper. ALTA, Iowa – A top check of $1,000 along with a berth on the 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot are at stake for IMCA Modifieds vying Wednesday at Buena Vista Raceway. The Modified portion of the Aug. 8 program at Alta is draw/redraw. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts complete the card. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional, Iowa State and track points will be awarded. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:45 p.m. with racing to follow. Pit passes are $25. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors, veterans and students. Kids ages 12 and under get in for $2 or with the donation of a non-perishable food item.

Marriott makes it two wins in three nights with BVR Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights checkers

ALTA, Iowa (July 25) – Wednesday’s night’s Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour rubber match went to Hunter Marriott. Marriott led every lap from the pole in winning the IMCA Modified main event at Buena Vista Race­way. The $2,000 tour victory was his second in three days, the first coming Monday at Park Jefferson Speedway. Kyle Strickler, winner of the Tuesday tour event at Hancock County Speedway, was a distant se­cond. “It seems like we had gone on a dry streak there for a while, then we got a couple wins on the Dakota Tour so we knew we could still do it,” said Marriott, who’d put his name on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot Monday. “We’ve won three of five career starts at Alta and a couple Dirt Knights features now, and that always feels good.” Strickler fell back as far as fifth before working his way back to the runner-up spot. IMCA RaceSaver Sprints make BVR debut on June 6

ALTA, Iowa – IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars make their Buena Vista Raceway debut, joining the Wednesday, June 6 card. There is no entry fee and the Sprint Car portion of the CS Agrow-sponsored program is draw/redraw. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and Iowa State points will be awarded. Rounding out the card are IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts.
