Abelson captures Dirt Knight Tour bounty at BVR

ALTA, Iowa (July 24) – Add a new title to Chris Abelson’s racing resume: Bounty hunter.

Abelson led all 30 laps of Wednesday’s Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour main event at Buena Vista Raceway, earning $2,000 for the IMCA Modified feature victory plus the $500 bounty of­fered to the driver who could stop Richie Gustin’s series streak.

Abelson drew the pole and tussled with California challenger Cody Laney before and after re­starts on the 18th circuit. 

The last 12 laps ran green. Laney stayed close but had to settle for second. Gustin, chasing a record fourth straight tour victory, started seventh and finished third. 

Completing the top five were in the Al Ritts Memorial race were Joel Rust and Kelly Shryock. Hard charger Craig Reetz started 10th and finished 10th.

Abelson was already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. His third feature win of the sea­son was his Arnold Motor Supply Dirt Knights Tour career sixth. The 2016 tour champion also won at BVR in 2011 and 2016. 

Other Wednesday winners at Alta were Stefan Sybesma in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, rookie Mike Smith in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Doug Smith in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Caine Mahlberg in the Mach-1 Sport Compacts. 

The fourth and final tour Dirt Knights Tour event of the week is the $1,500 to win show Thursday, July 25 at Kossuth County Speedway.

That program will be broadcast by IMCA.TV.

Also on the card at Algona are IMCA Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks, Northern SportMods and Sport Compacts.

Pit gates and the grandstand open at 5:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 7 p.m. with racing to follow.

Wednesday IMCA Modified winner at BVR earns $1,000 

ALTA, Iowa – A top check of $1,000 along with a berth on the 2019 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot are at stake for IMCA Modifieds vying Wednesday at Buena Vista Raceway. The Modified portion of the Aug. 8 program at Alta is draw/redraw. IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts complete the card. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, regional, Iowa State and track points will be awarded. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:45 p.m. with racing to follow. Pit passes are $25. IMCA Midwest Madness Tour returns for June 26-30 run

WORTHINGTON, Minn. (June 24, 2022) – Drivers in five IMCA divisions see action on five consecutive nights in the upcoming Midwest Madness Tour. Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars both race for $1,000 top prizes Sunday, June 26 at Minnesota’s Worthington Speedway; and at Iowa venues Clay County Fair Speedway in Spencer on Monday, June 27; Buena Vista Raceway in Alta on Tuesday, June 28; Shelby County Speedway in Harlan on Wednesday, June 29; and at Stuart Speedway on Thursday, June 30.  Modified winners become eligible to qualify for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational while Stock Car winners become B & B Racing Chassis All-Star qualifying eligible.  Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods race for $500 to win, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks for $400 to win and Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $200 to win each night.  IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing national, regional, KMJ Performance State and tour points will be awarded. ALTA, Iowa – One thousand dollars is the top prize for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars at Buena Vista Raceway’s Wednesday, July 15 Kyle Suter Memorial, presented by North Central Line Service.  Completing the midweek card are IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods, racing for $1,000 to win as well, and Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $300 to win. All classes are draw/redraw. The Modified feature is a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier.
