Chadwick up to challenge in Nor-Cal opener at Silver Dollar

CHICO, Calif. (March 7-8) – After a disappointing 2013 season, Kellen Chadwick picked the perfect night and the perfect track to launch a successful 2014 campaign. Chadwick held off Ryan McDaniel and then Troy Foulger in winning the Saturday night IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature at Silver Dollar Speedway. The Nor-Cal Challenge Series opening victory came on night two of Silver Dollar’s Silver Cup special. “After last year, it was very important for us to get off to a good start this season,” said Chadwick. “This being a Nor-Cal Series race, $1,000 to win and a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier, we accomplished that.” Foulger, defending series champion McDaniel, opening night Silver Cup winner Nick DeCarlo and Monte Bischoff rounded out the top five. Drivers prepare for Antioch Speedway opener March 15

ANTIOCH, Calif. – Racers will be turning wrenches and cleaning cars late into the night this week to prepare for opening night at Antioch Speedway. The Contra Costa Fairgrounds 3/8-mile banked clay oval has an exciting schedule kicked off by a six-division program on Saturday night, March 15. Champion Troy Foulger, 23, of Martinez will return to competition at his home track driving the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified owned by Oakley’s Billy Bowers. Foulger has an unprecedented four straight track championships and the Bowers car has seven – three with its previous driver, Kenny Neu. Car show, test and tune April 12 in Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – The streets of downtown Independence will soon be filled with the sights and sounds of a new race season during the Indee Drivers’ Day Car Show. The event, which kicks off the 2014 season at Independence Motor Speedway, offers race fans the chance to get a close-up view of this year’s competition and to meet their favorite drivers. It is scheduled for Saturday, April 12. Area drivers are invited to bring their cars to display during the morning-long event. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with the car show running until noon. A number of streets in the downtown area will be blocked off and restricted to race cars and foot traffic that morning. Chandler funeral services are Saturday

URBANA, Iowa – Funeral services for Merv Chandler will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 15 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, 4200 1st Avenue NE in Cedar Rapids. One of the most successful drivers of IMCA’s modern era, Chandler, 60, died unexpectedly Monday, March 10 at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 14 at the chapel. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A celebration of life follows funeral services at Wildhogs in Walford. The winner of 118 feature events during his IMCA career, Chandler finished third in the Modified main event at the first-ever Super Nationals in 1983. He qualified for the big show five more times, matching that third-place finish in 1988. Chandler ended the Modified portion of his career with 42 feature wins and three track titles. QA1 contingency awards for IMCA top $11,000

LAKEVILLE, Minn. (March 10) – More than $11,000 in contingency awards go to drivers in five IMCA divisions competing with QA1-manufactured shocks again in 2014. The Lakeville, Minn., company will reward eligible IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center South­ern SportMod competitors. Product certificates given in each of the five Modified regions will be $350 for first, $250 for second, $200 for third, $150 for fourth and $100 for fifth. Top three finishers in both Stock Car regions, both Hobby Stock re­gions and national points for each SportMod division receive awards in increments of $350, $250 and $150. Admission prices finalized for 2014 at Salina Speedway

By Dusty Wiegert SALINA, Kan. – As the racing season quickly approaches at Salina Speedway, admission prices for 2014 have been finalized and will save many fans money as they attend America’s Fast Track to Fun this year. General admission to the grandstand will now be an even $10 no matter what is racing, special events excluded. This is a change from the previous two seasons in which nights when Late Models competed admission was $12. Now adults will only need to pay $10 each week, a savings of nearly $50 per person over the season. Kids’ admission will continue to be free, but the ages have been adjusted slightly. Kids 15 and under will now always be free. Anyone 16 and up will need to purchase an adult ticket.
