Behning tops Davenport IMCA Late Model main

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (Aug. 15) – Brunson Behning took advantage of a timely caution flag and scored his first Late Model victory at Davenport Speedway on Friday. Behning took the lead of the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature from Chuck Hanna on lap four. On lap nine, Ray Guss Jr. got by Behning, but a caution flag erased the pass for the lead. On the restart, Brunson got away to a comfortable lead that he turned into a victory. Justin Kay made a late -ace charge passing both Guss and Mike Murphy Jr. to finish second. Guss came home third, followed by Murphy and Joe Zrostlik. Doug Crampton was the winner in an exciting Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modified main. Rich Smith jumped out to the early lead of the 20-lap race. Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational to feature first Utah, Washington drivers

BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 6) – The second round of voting for the 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational has produced the first-ever race starters from Utah and Washington. Chase Hansen of Myton, Utah, and Joe German of Aberdeen, Wash., were among the 13 drivers added to the field for the Friday, Sept. 5 All-Star race, during the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Three drivers from each of the five IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified regions were elected to start that event during the first round of voting; the next 13 All-Stars were elected at-large from among the next 50 drivers in vote totals in balloting that ended on Tuesday. Boone County to host Shane Thome Modified Mania on Aug. 22

By Ryan Clark ALBION, Neb. (Aug. 15) – Less than a year after the death of IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified driver Shane Thome, his hometown track is planning a special event in his honor. Boone County Raceway will host the first annual Shane Thome Modified Mania special on Friday, Aug. 22 to remember Thome, who died as a result of injuries suffered in a car accident last September. The Modified division will headline the event with a $2,500 winner’s share on the line and a guaranteed $125 to start the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying event. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Jet Racing Central Region and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded. Super Nationals pre-entries already up over last year

BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 15) – Pre-entries for the upcoming IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s are running ahead of numbers for last year’s event. More impressively, the increase from two years ago is now a robust 25 percent. At of the end of the business day on Thursday, 333 drivers had completed the early registration process. That’s up from the same date each of the last two years. By division, 2014’s early entries include 129 Modifieds, 69 Stock Cars, 54 Hobby Stocks, 68 Northern SportMods, two Late Models and 11 Sport Compacts. Super Nationals is Sept. 1-6 at Boone Speedway. Another 132 drivers have already reserved pit stalls. In all, pre-registered and confirmed drivers hail from 26 states and Canada. Deery Series, XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour at Tipton next Tuesday

TIPTON, Iowa – The Deery Brothers Summer Series and XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour both make much-anticipated returns to Cedar County Raceway next Tuesday, Aug. 19. IMCA Late Models run for $3,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start while IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds contend in a $1,000 to win, minimum $150 to start feature. Kids’ Night is Aug. 16 at Independence Motor Speedway

Area businesses have assembled to sponsor Kids’ Night this Saturday, August 16. Along with a number of prizes for the youngsters, a candy dash will be held during intermission. Superior Cleaning Services, Tarpy Trucking, RE/MAX Independence Realty and Independence Plumbing & Heating, all of Independence, will provide candy for the candy dash. Aug. 15 IMCA Modified winner earns $1,000 at Luxemburg

By Greg Aregoni LUXEMBURG, Wis. – The Cory Jonet Memorial returns to Luxemburg Speedway this Friday, Aug. 15. This is the second year for the memorial. Racing gets underway at 7 p.m. All five divisions will be in action. Village Kitchen is the sponsor for the evening. The IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified winner will go home with $1,000. Eddie Muenster picked up the win last week in impressive fashion. Jason Czarapata is in search of his first-ever Modified crown at Luxemburg. He owns a 21-point lead on James Tebon. Luellen wins Bones Memorial Topless SportMod feature at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (Aug. 10) – The Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods were missing their roofs, but none of their speed Sunday night at Stuart Speedway. Clint Luellen came out on top of the first annual Bones Memorial Topless SportMod 25-lap feature on Hawkeye Auto Salvage Night at the Races. The drivers voted a few weeks ago to make the memorial a “topless” event where they had to remove their roofs and sail panels. The race paid tribute to fallen official Richard “Bones” Welch. Josh Sink and Chase Rudolf got the lucky draw and led the field to green with Jenae Gustin coming through to lead lap one. Gustin held the top spot until Clint Luellen passed her on lap four. Luellen held the lead through three cautions, but Gustin took the lead on lap 19. Luellen came around to take it back a lap later before one final caution flew for debris on lap 23. Petersilie, Traskowsky get the job done at Salina Speedway

by Larry Lowrey Jr. SALINA, Kan. (Aug. 8) – One of the strongest runs Friday night at Salina Speedway came in the Belleville Motor Sports IMCA Modified division. Mike Petersilie started seventh in the feature and took little time to roar through the field and gain the top spot. Once out front, Petersilie ran away to his second win of the season. Mike Traskowsky continued his dream season in the Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stock division. Traskowsky made his way past Terry Blessing for the lead following a mid-race caution to drive to his sixth win of the year.
