Stallbaumer scores first win in second night at Thunder Hill

MAYETTA, Kan. (Aug. 9) – Ladies Night at The Races brought out a large crowd once again at Thunder Hill Speedway Saturday night. Kyle Stallbaumer didn’t race at all last season. As a matter of fact, the BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modified driver was almost looking at missing all of 2014, as well, until he decided to make his return one week ago. Stallbaumer only needed one night to settle in as he drove to victory Saturday night. He made his way around Justin Becker in lapped traffic to score the win. Chad Shaw sprinted into the lead early in the Belleville Motor Sports IMCA Northern SportMod feature. He led the distance to become the seventh different winner in the division this season. Another new victor was found in the Bad Boyz Bail Bonds IMCA Hobby Stock division. Nocholas Ronnebaum held off Tyer Hinrichs in lapped traffic to earn his first win of the season. The other new winner on the night was Art Herzog in the Casey’s General Stores IMCA Sport Compact division. Herzog battled [Read More]

Siefert proves he’s up to the challenge at Shawano Speedway

By Scott Owen SHAWANO Wis. (Aug. 9) – Autism Awareness Night at the historic half-mile Shawano Speedway saw Jared Siefert pocket an extra $900 by virtue of winning “The Challenge” in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature. The feature started with a battle between Cody Hudson and Jesse Peebles on lap one. Hudson took the lead and held it until lap six when Matt Oreskovich raced inside of Hudson for the lead. By this point, Jared Siefert, who started 18th after taking the challenge, was up to sixth. A caution flag flew on lap nine after contact between Jamie Schmidt and Marcus Yarie. While under caution Oreskovich was forced to pull down to pit lane with drive line problems. Siefert was up to fourth before the caution. Hudson assumed the lead after Oreskovich’s problems, but was immediately challenged by Siefert on the restart. Siefert took the lead with an inside pass on lap 11 and led to the end becoming the first Modified driver to successfully complete the challenge at Shawano. He took home [Read More]

Dolan dominates State Fair Show for career first Deery win

DES MOINES, Iowa (Aug. 11) – Ryan Dolan took home one of the biggest prizes from the Iowa State Fair Monday night: A check for $3,000. Dolan won his career first Deery Brothers Summer Series event, topping the 35-lap IMCA Late Model tour event at the State Fairgrounds Speedway. “My dad (Roger) has won races at Des Moines. If you’re going to win a Deery Series race, that’s the one,” said Dolan, who started outside Joel Callahan on the front row. “It was just a fantastic night of racing.” “I followed Callahan for a couple laps and took the lead when he pushed up,” he continued. “The track was fast and I thought with the way the car was handling, I’d be tough to pass.” Scott Fitzpatrick was a career-best second. Darrel DeFrance finished third, point leader Justin Kay was fourth and Callahan ended in fifth. The fast-paced feature was delayed just twice by caution, when Josh Most slowed on lap 17 and again when Jason Rauen’s engine expired with eight laps left. Dolan’s previous [Read More]

Brown is best at 85 for 100th IMCA Modified career win

SCURRY, Texas (Aug. 9) – A guy who never intended to be a race car driver drove to his 100th IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified career win Saturday night. Scotty Brown cruised to the landmark checkers at 85 Speedway. He‘s the 40th driver in division history and the fourth to do so this season. Very possibly, Brown is also IMCA’s first 100-time feature winner who got into the sport with no intention of ever actually racing. “I really got into this by accident,” he explains. “I had never been around racing until I was about 17 and a friend I met at high school asked me to help him.” “We were at the track when his mom found out what he wanted to do. She let us know that he would not be racing,” Brown continued. “I was handed the keys, I jumped in the car and I’ve been hooked ever since. That’s how it all started.” The Scurry speedster cut his teeth in the street stock class at Crandall, then moved to the sanctioned [Read More]

Mackenthun tops final race, Larson is Bruns Challenge Cup champ

REDWOOD FALLS, Minn. (Aug. 10) – It was the kind of finish fans like to see, but the conclusion of Sunday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature at Redwood Speedway was a tad too close from Dan Mackenthun’s point of view. Mackenthun edged Mike Bruns by all of half a car length to win the third and final race in the Dominick Bruns Memorial Challenge Cup Chase. The victory paid $1,000. Mackenthun drew the pole start and led all 20 circuits. After an early caution, the last 17 laps ran green. “I had a plan going out there,” Mackenthun said. “I drove right around the tires in (turns) one and two and on the high side in three and four.” Rich Gregoire challenged at the onset. Bruns made best use of the bottom line and almost caught Mackenthun at the stripe. “It was a good race for the fans. They like it better when it’s close like that,” Mackenthun said. Dan Veenstra, Jeff McCollum and Gregoire rounded out the top five. Jim Larson clinched the overall [Read More]

Coop, Sterling win at Elmwood Park Speedway

Point leader Dustin McClurg, Jason Davis and Eric Kinderknecht rounded out the top five. Brian Conness returned to the winner’s circle as he captured the victory in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main event. By Bob Coney JEFFERSON, S.D. (Aug. 11) – It was “Go Fast or Go Home” in racing action Sunday night at Raceway Park. In the Jebro, Inc. Defending Modified champion gets first 2014 North Star Series win

ARLINGTON, Minn. (Aug. 9) – Defending IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified champion Brandon Beckendorf got his first win of the 2014 Redline Racing Parts North Star Series Saturday at Arlington Raceway. Jeff Coon led the first 16 laps before a caution brought the field back together. On the restart, Beckendorf dove in and took the lead away with Dan Menk right behind him. Coon then went into the pit area with a flat tire. Beckendorf led the remaining five laps with Menk on his tail and Curt Lund moving up from his 14th place start to challenge but ultimately settling for third. The victory was Beckendorf’s series career fifth. Gary Mattison drew pole and led the first three laps of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main before giving way to Dan Mackenthun. Mackenthun in turn was challenged by Jeff McCollum and Jim Larson but held off both drivers the rest of the distance for his second series win of the season and career fourth checkers. Sample, Fitzgerald are tops at Tonopah

TONOPAH, Nev. (Aug. 8-9) – Cory Sample and Dan Fitzgerald were $1,000 feature winners at Tonopah Speedway’s Jim Marsh Classic for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds. Sample took the checkers Friday in his first-ever visit to Tonopah, then ran second behind Fitzgerald in the Saturday show. His five-hour one-way trip was rewarded with a flag to flag run up front on opening night. Sample started outside pole and led every circuit in a contest that saw enough cautions to keep lapped traffic out of play. Rounding out Friday’s top five were Jeff Shepard, Rick Durica, James Thibodeaux and Scott Pike. Lapped cars and a late restart both had roles on Saturday as Sample’s big lead disappeared when he couldn’t work his way through traffic. The eighth starting Fitzgerald erased most of a straightaway shortcoming before Sample got two lapped cars between them. After the yellow waved for a spun car, Fitzgerald used the high line to pass Sample and led the last two laps. Durica, Thibodeaux and Steve Evenson finished third through fifth, respectively.
