SHAWANO, Wis. (May 16) – Mark Weisnicht went wire-to-wire on the way to winning a caution-free IMCA Xtreme Motorsports Modified feature Saturday at Shawano Speedway.
Weisnicht started outside row one and quickly pulled away from the rest of the field. Tony Wedelstadt gave chase much of the race but could not catch Weisnicht. Wedelstadt finished the race in second. Matt Oreskovich passed Jerry Wilinski on the final lap to finish in third.
It was the first win of the year for Weisnicht.
The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature saw Luke Uttecht and Gary Kasperek up in front while Travis VanStraten worked his way through the field from ninth starting. Van Straten took over second on lap seven and caught Kasperek for the lead the next time around.
Van Straten led the rest of the race for his third local win of the season. Steven Stewart put on a late-race charge to take second spot. Harley Simon finished a strong third.
In her second visit to the track, Brianna Ambroziak took the lead at the drop of the green in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main. By lap three, Tracy Wassenberg raced into second and began to pressure Ambroziak.
Wassenberg got to the inside of Ambroziak on lap seven to grab the lead. On lap nine, Lucas Lamberies raced door-to-door with Wassenberg and held the lead at the flag stand.
Wassenberg took to the high side and grabbed the lead back for good on the next circuit. Lamberies finished in second. Brock Saunders came home in third.
