Career highlight accompanies $3,000 check for Sheen’s win at father’s memorial special

EUNICE, N.M. (July 4) – Michael Sheen traveled to Cardinal Speedway and came home with $3,000 and a new IMCA Sunoco Stock Car career highlight. He started from the pole and led all 30 laps at Cardinal’s sixth Kelly Sheen Memorial, the special held in honor of his father, a long-time Stock Car competitor at Eunice. “I’ve been trying to win this race for five years. Taylor’s last-turn heroics at Estevan yield Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour win

ESTEVAN, Sask. (July 6) – First he raced from 19th to second in his “B” feature to advance to the Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic main event at Estevan Motor Speedway. Then Jeff Taylor started 13th and won Monday’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified headliner in dramatic fashion with a last-turn pass of Aaron Turnbull. “It was awesome,” the defending tour champion said from victory lane. “I had a good car and was able to get a line nobody else was running.” Turnbull, Spencer Wilson, new point leader Hunter Marriott and Ricky Thornton Jr. completed the top five. Thornton also came from the “B” features and advanced 10 spots. New series track records were set with 83 Modified and 39 Stock Car entries. Steve, Tom Schneider both win first IMCA features

By Dave Panske OSHKOSH, Wis. (July 3) – Steve Schneider sped to his career-first Automotive Supply IMCA Modified feature win Friday at Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway. Rookie contender Trevor Spaulding grabbed the lead and looked every bit a veteran, setting the pace and opening a lead after each of four first-half cautions. The final restart saw Spaulding again open a slight lead with Matt Klenz, Chris Engels, fellow rookie contender Schneider, Dennis Schultz and Mike Mueller behind. This time, the pack stayed tight with Spaulding still in command before suddenly pulling high on lap 14 and dropping out with mechanical problems. Schneider was running the inside line, slipped into the top spot and once in front, took off and left the race for the runner-up spot. Schneider sped across the finish line to collect his first career IMCA Modified feature win. Point leader Marcus Yarie started the race 14th and took the runner up spot over Klenz. Keeping with the theme of 4th of July road trips, visiting teams nearly dominated victory lane Friday night at the Luxemburg Speedway. Once the green flag flew, that was pretty much the last the rest of the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified field saw of Erik Mahlik. The focus shifted to second, with Josh Long grabbing the position from James Tebon at the mid-point. Long did solidify his hold on the spot, but without a caution, had no chance to real in the departed Mahlik. WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (July 3) – A pair of mid-week shows are next for the Deery Brothers Summer Series. Touring IMCA Late Models race for $3,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start on Tuesday, July 7 at West Liberty Raceway and Wednesday, July 8 at Independence Motor Speedway. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds are also on the slate at West Liberty, racing for $1,000 to win and all applicable points. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow. Lambert hammers down for $1,000 Soukup Memorial win

(July 5) – Josh Lambert scored the biggest win of his Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod career, outdueling defending track champ Chris Budzban in Sunday’s $1,000 to win Soukup Memorial at Thunderhill Raceway. Budzban drew a front row start for the 40-lapper, along with Kyle Raddant, and quickly established himself as the car to beat, distancing himself from Bernie Reinhardt and Jarred VanLaanen. Following a lap five restart, Budzban set a blistering pace as Lambert battled Reinhardt and VanLaanen for the runner-up spot. The race stayed green all the way to the competition caution on lap 20 with Budzban as the race leader. VINTON, Iowa – A potential payday of more than $5,000 awaits the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature winner at Benton County Speedway’s Sunday, July 12 Hogan Memorial. The 21st annual event is 50 laps and now pays $1,950 to win, including a $500 bonus from RACEFEEDX and IMCA.TV. Lap money is $50 for every circuit, plus $250 to the leader at midway. Hard charger cash awards add up to $600. Minimum start money has been increased to $250 and Modified heat race winners also earn $100. The Cottage Grove Speedway Modified Nationals will be run in honor of Mark Howard, who was a very inspirational person to many people in the pit area and a driving mentor to several CGS drivers. Eakin, Smith are Sprint winners at I-90

By Steve Zwemke HARTFORD, S.D. (July 4) – Nate Eakin lead 35 laps of Coffee Cup IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature racing Saturday at I-90 Speedway. The first 20 were in the makeup feature, which was postponed due to rain a week ago. Eakin dominated the field as the race went without caution. Eakin won the night’s heat before going on a tear in the regularly scheduled feature. He led the first 15 laps but Colin Smith began to catch him and on the 16th lap Smith made an incredible pass in the second turn to become the first driver overtake Eakin on Saturday.

Dripps, Murty, Swanson top thrilling three-wide finishes at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (July 5) – Fans were seeing triple Sunday night at Benton County Speedway as three divisions came down to three-wide finishes in exciting action on the quarter-mile. In the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, David Brown led throughout the 20-lap feature while Corey Dripps gave chase. Brown was dialed in on the preferred high groove while Dripps pestered him from the low side. Meanwhile, Zach Less was working through traffic and into contention following a lap five miscue that sent him to the tail of the field. Following a caution on the 18th circuit, Brown led the field back to green while Dripps and Less pressured from the low side. The three approached the checkers three-wide with Dripps inching ahead to steal his first win of the season. Brown was scored second ahead of Less.
