IMCA Modifieds race for $1,000 to win Friday at Marshalltown

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – Marshalltown Speedway will roar to life this Friday, July 17 at 7:30 p.m. with extra money on the line and a draw/re-draw format for the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. The Modifieds will race for $1,000 to win and $100 to start in their 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying feature event. Added money is also up for grabs as the Hobby Stocks chase $400 to win and $50 to start on Friday night. There is no entry fee and the pit pass is the standard $22. Also on the card will be mod lites, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. All sanctioned divisions racing for all applicable points.

RPM Speedway hosts fair races

By Mike Hughes HAYS, Kan. (July 11-12) – RPM Speedway in Hays, KS, kicked off the 2015 Ellis County Fair with races on Saturday and Sunday, July 11-12, at the 3/8 mile oval. Jerry Phillps took the early lead Sunday’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature. On the lap eight restart, Kyle Rohleder shot to the lead and held on for a repeat fair week trip to the winner’s circle. Marty Clark charged back to second place, trailed by Dylan Sherfick. The $1,000 victory put Rohleder on the ballot for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Point leader Chad Sterling took the lead at the drop of the green in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event before a caution waved on lap two. Jason Rogers chased down Sterling and took control on lap 12 and held off Sterling for the victory. Third place went to Jared Remus. Nelson, Nichols go back to back at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (July 12) – Colton Nelson and Mike Nichols lit up the track on a night where the lights literally went out at Stuart Speedway. A power outage before the features started created some drama for the night. Brett Vanderheiden and Colton Nelson were on the front row for the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main. Nelson took the lead at the start with Arie Schouten in tow for the first two laps. Clint Luellen made it to second on lap three, but Nelson was already out to a sizeable lead. That lead was erased on lap 12 as a caution came out, and the field lined up for a three-lap dash to the finish. Luellen made a move to the inside as the green flag flew, but Nelson was up to the task and got back into the lead with two to go. Nelson went on to take the win, his second in two weeks. Harris follows quick heat showing with Shenandoah Speedway win

(July 11) – After his heat race, it was plain to see Jerald Harris was fast and a definite threat to win Saturday’s Virginia Sprint Series main event at Shenandoah Speedway. Harris stayed on pace all night to score another pavement victory and his first IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car tour win since May 2. Bill Rice and Tony Harris paced the field to green. Rice was out first with Tony Harris in tow but by lap five Jerald Harris was on the charge, making his way to second and was all over Rice. Rice was getting tight, causing him to go high, and Harris turned left and went under him and to the front. That was the race as Harris cruised to the win one of many at Shenandoah Speedway. Baumann is best at BMP

(July 11) – Kenny Baumann was best in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event Saturday at Billings Motorsports Park, outrunning Zach Olson and Arizona hotshoe Sean Stewart. Baumann got a slight advantage over pole starter Donovan Sorenson, then took off. Nobody was close until Olson found a line and made up the distance in a hurry. Olson looked low, then slid up and nobody could get close again until after the caution came out. Stewart took the lead following the ensuing restart. Baumann was no rookie, staying patient and storming right back to regain the lead for good.

DeYoung is tops at Tri-City

AUBURN, Mich. (July 10) – Myron DeYoung checked in at the pit shack and then checked out on the rest of the Main Street Seed and Supply IMCA Modified field Friday at Tri-City Motor Speedway. Frank Evans III paced the field to green flag and led the first half of the race. Point leader DeYoung found some room on the bottom of the track and took the lead on lap 10. The man chasing DeYoung in the point standing, A.J. Ward, made his way through the pack and tried making a move but had his hands full with Todd Matheson. When it was all said and done, nobody could find away pass DeYoung and he took the no. 7D to victory lane at Auburn for the third time this season. Finishing behind him were Ward in second, Matheson in third, Brenten DeYoung in fourth and Rusty Zeigler, who was involved in an early crash, in fifth.

Serbus sprints to Grams Memorial Night checkers

ARLINGTON, Minn. (July 11) – Liberty Station sponsored Dan Grams Memorial Night, in honor of a young man who raced Sprint Cars at Arlington Raceway and lost his life in a car accident three years ago. Trevor Serbus is on a roll, as he won the Dan Grams Memorial feature for 95.7 The Rock IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars. Jordan Wilmes was the first lap leader but a caution came out on the second circuit. On the restart, Serbus took the lead and never looked back. Jesse Cripe passed Wilmes on the backstretch on the last lap to take second. After Trent Loverude and Chad Porter took turns in the lead, Clint Hatlestad took charge and took the checkers in the MN 93 IMCA Modified main event. Smith in a groove at I-90

(July 11) – Colin Smith of Sheldon, Iowa is in his first year of racing IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars but it’s taken him very little time to get comfortable behind the wheel. Smith came up through go-karts before getting involved in micro sprint racing in Iowa. The opportunity to move up another rung came when veteran racer Bill Boles sold his car to the Smiths. Boles has been there all the way to provide advice and encouragement and Smith won his first IMCA RaceSaver feature in just his third start at I-90 Speedway. He has been the points leader for much of the season and, on Saturday, won his second feature in a row and his third overall after leading all 20 laps – just another example of how Smith is finding his groove in the new class.

34 Raceway celebrates 50th season with $1.50 grandstand admission

Dolan checks out for Deery Series win at Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa (July 12) – Ryan Dolan took the feature win while Jeff Aikey and Justin Kay taught their Deery Brothers Summer Series foes a thing or two about passing Sunday night at Dubuque Speedway. Dolan led the last 46 of 50 laps in topping the IMCA Late Model tour main event. The $3,000 victory was his first this season and career second. Aikey needed a rare provisional, started 22nd and finished second. Kay, the defending champion and current point leader, spun out of second on a lap 33 restart, went to the back of the field and raced all the way back to third. Jon Merfeld and Joe Zrostlik were fourth and fifth, respectively.
