
34 celebrates 50th with Blast From the Past
By Dana Royer WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (July 18) – It was a Blast from the Past at 34 Raceway Saturday night as the 3/8-mile high bank celebrating its 50th season of racing. Admission price was rolled back to 1966 to $1.50, memorabilia was on display courtesy of Billy Dusenberry and yes, even the vintage race cars took to the track. Tales from the past were shared throughout the evening by former racers and current Hall of Fame members were remembered. Even the trophies were a reminder of the first race at 34 Raceway, which was originally called 34 Raceway Park. Fifty years later, 34 Raceway is listed in the top 10 in continuous operating tracks in the country. Race fans also dug deep as drivers went through the stands collecting money for the Cameron, Ill., families hit but a tornado last week. Chase Klenk got his first IMCA Sunoco Stock Car win in a 20-lap event that ran non-stop and featured three- and four-wide racing throughout.
