Day gets feature win, fiancée at Sprint Series of Texas show

CRANDALL, Texas (April 8) – Michael Day became a double winner at Friday’s Sprint Series of Texas event at RPM Speedway. After being promoted to the top spot when the first car across the finish line came up light on the post-race scales, Day made good on a promise and proposed to girlfriend Terra Harris, getting down on one knee in victory lane and sealing the deal with a zip tie. “When I started racing a Sprint Car two years ago, I promised to propose after I won my first feature and it happened this weekend,” Day said. “She’s been expecting this for about a year now.” Day raced limited modifieds for two seasons, then took a couple years off before getting into his father Jeff’s back-up ride. Farley, Webster City weekend shows are next for Deery Series

FARLEY, Iowa (April 12) – A pair of $2,000 to win Deery Brothers Summer Series main events headline season-opening shows this weekend. The IMCA Late Model tour is at Farley Speedway on Friday, April 15 and at Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City on Saturday, April 16. Pit gates at Farley open at 5:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 6:30 p.m. Hot laps are at 7:30 p.m. with racing to follow. Spectator admission is $16 for adults, $14 for seniors, $10 for students ages 13-17 and free for 12 and under. Also running are Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds for all applicable points. Osborn opens season with Lincoln County checkers

(April 9) – Getting their season started off right with Saturday trips to the winner’s circle at Lincoln County Raceway were Colton Osborn, Jamey Kennicutt, Casey Werkmeister, Jacob Olmstead and Andrew Baumgardner. Starting on the pole and putting on a dominating performance of never relinquishing the lead was Osborn, on his way to scoring the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified win. Osborn weathered the storm of a late caution and then cruised to the victory. Runner-up Jeremy Frenier had started seventh. After starting in the second row and snaring the lead on the fourth lap, Jamey Kennicutt rolled to the win in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod division. Hoeft handles Modified foes at Hancock County

J.J. Wise took second followed by 11th starting Dustin Smith, Austin Wolf and Ben Kraus. Luke Sathoff held off the challenge by David Smith to take the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers. Calvin Lange ended up in third place with Jim Larson fourth and Devin Smith fifth. Ninth starting Nick Meyer was first across the finish line in the 24-car Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature. Matt Looft finished second with hard-charging Jared Boumeester third. Nate Chodur was fourth and Jerid Ratzke rounded out the top five cars. Regular season kicks off at RPM

By Mike Hughes HAYS, Kan. (April 9) – After a very successful Sunflower Classic two weeks ago, the regular points season got underway at RPM Speedway in Hays, KS, Saturday evening, April 9. The NAPA Auto Parts/Gib’s Auto Supply IMCA Modified feature had the wildest finish of the night. Danny Morrison led the opening lap before Dylan Sherfick took the lead. Sherfick appeared to have the race well in hand until a caution on the final lap for a spinning car set up a one-lap shootout to the finish. Sherfick led the field back to green, trailed by Morrison and Tyler Frye. As the field headed into turn two on the final lap, Frye shot around Morrison for second, dove under Sherfick in turns three and four and made it stick, then held on to the checkers by a car length. Cottage Grove Speedway opens with 60th anniversary event

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. – Saturday, April 9, would be the first race of the 2016 race season at Cottage Grove Speedway. It also opened up the 60th anniversary of racing at the historical ¼-mile clay oval. Not only would the pit area swell with a huge car count it would be complimented with jam-packed grandstands full of fans anticipating the first race of the year in the state of Oregon and Collen Winebarger made history as the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event winner. The Modifieds attracted 24 teams for the first race of the campaign and Winebarger got out to the front on the initial start. The feature was slowed by numerous cautions so restarts were key. Winebarger got the job done and led every lap. Kinzer Cox finished second, followed by Craig Hanson, B.J. Wild and John Campos.

Early entries top 230 for Ice Breaker special at Eagle

EAGLE, Neb. – The Twice is Nice Challenge is new to the season-opening Ice Breaker Challenge at Eagle Raceway April 15 and 16. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds race for $1,000 to win on Friday and for $2,000 to win on Saturday while Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods run for $500 to win both nights. More than 230 drivers from Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Minnesota are already pre-entered for the event. (April 8-9) – Mike Hansen returned to his old stomping grounds to score the $1,000 Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified checkers at Raceway Park South Dakota Spring Nationals.
