Summer Storm Series opens at Off Road Speedway

(May 7) – All four of the divisions getting the Summer Storm Dirt Series competition saw the eventual race winner pull away from the pack Saturday at Off Road Speedway. Kyle Prauner pulled away to secure the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod win, his second of the season at Norfolk. Ultimately, Dylan Pospisil won what became a three-car race for the runner-up spot, with Nelson Vollbrecht getting third ahead of Troy Bruns. Another runaway winner, Ron Pettitt, needed 10 laps to get to the front in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car race and then put plenty of distance between himself and second-place finisher John Hadcock during the final six laps. Chasing Hadcock to the finish line was Chad Bruns. Tejay Mielke powered his way to a convincing victory in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature, his second in three nights of racing at Off Road Speedway, while Jeremy Hoskinson established a decisive second-place finish ahead of Tiffany Bittner. Former track champions enjoy Shawano success

By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (May 7) – Former track champions Jerry Wilinski, Dan Michonski, and Lucas Lamberies each scored their first wins of the season Saturday at Shawano Speedway. Second row starter Chucky Forstner led the first two laps of the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature before Jeremie Hedrick asserted himself with an outside pass. Hedrick led through lap 12 when the caution flag flew. On the next lap, Wilinski took the lead from Hedrick with an inside pass. Lance Arneson and Marcus Yarie joined Wilinski and Hedrick in the top four on lap 15. Yarie went three-wide with Arneson and Hedrick the next time around to grab second. Yarie pressured Wilinski the rest of the way but Wilinski would not be denied the victory. Yarie finished second, Arneson third, Forstner fourth and Hedrick fifth. Michonski raced his way to second by the fourth circuit and set a course for leader Gary Kasperek. Ward continues to dominate IMCA Modifieds at Tri-City

AUBURN, Mich. (May 6) – To say defending Main Street Seed and Supply IMCA Modified champion Myron DeYoung has had a rough start to the season at Tri-City Motor Speedway would be a huge understatement. It looked like maybe his luck would turn around Friday night however, as he dominated his heat race. Starting inside row two, he immediately passed front row starters Craig Vance and Matt Szecsodi and lead through lap 13 in the main event. But once again, A.J. Ward, who has won every feature in 2016, found his way to DeYoung’s back bumper. The frontrunners put on quite a display before Ward pulled away and cruised to win number three on the season. DeYoung was second, followed by Vance, Chad Wernette and “B” winner Austin Wonch. A record 107 drivers vied in the regular weekly show at Auburn.

Bowers takes opening night honors at Atchison County

(May 6) – Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds started their inaugural season at Atchison County Raceway with a bang on Friday as Steven Bowers Jr. won both his heat race and the feature. Hall of Famer Tom Charles sliced and diced through the pack to a solid second place finish, challenging Bowers to the line. Matt Richards had an impressive run placing third with Clay Hale fourth. Other heat race winner Tyson Lanfermann raced his way to fifth. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars saw the best of the best take to the track with numerous different leaders throughout the race. Tag Team Challenge winner Greg Keuhn took the early lead with Jim Powell knocking on the door before Brad Whitney entered the picture. Whitney used the high line to pass Keuhn and pulled out to a nice lead until hitting the berm in turn two and spinning out, taking him from the front spot. Cox collects Cottage Grove checkers

(May 7) – Kinzer Cox was in, out and ultimately back in front by the time the checkers flew at the conclusion of Saturday’s Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified main event at Cottage Grove Speedway. Cox snatched the lead early but the Cottage Grove youngster surrendered the lead on lap three to Eric Ashley. Ashley set a very wicked pace but ultimately lost the position to Cox on lap 17. Cox stayed up front the rest of the way to win his first race of 2016. Ashley ended the evening as runner-up while Tyler Smith was third. The rest of the top five consisted of Steven Sturdevant and Jake Mayden.

Ritchey leads the way in Laurel Highlands Sprint Series opener

HESSTON, Pa. (May 7) – The third time was the charm for Drew Ritchey and the Laurel Highlands IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Series. After back-to-back rainouts, the tour got its opening night show in on Saturday and Ritchey led all 20 laps of the main event at Hesston Speedway. Ritchey and Randy Sterling drew front row starts and Ritchey was quick to set the early pace. Jake Gomola, who had started third, headed up the chase but couldn’t find a way to the front. As the race went on, Sterling’s car appeared to get tight and Nathan Gramley reeled him in. Gramley got faster as the race went on and overtook Gomola for second. There wasn’t enough time left for Gramley to complete his charge however as Ritchey capped the win. Gomola, Brad Mellott and Steve Kenawell Jr. completed the top five. Gustin gets first Boone win of season

BOONE, Iowa (May 7) – Racing won out over the raindrops at Boone on Saturday night, after last week’s rain out. Fans were treated to a great show in all divisions. Jimmy Gustin grabbed his first local win this season in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified division, as did Randy Roberts in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Trent Murphy in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Only the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks saw a repeat winner, Solomon Bennett. In the Modified 20-lap feature, it was Joel Bushore showing the way until lap 14. That was when Gustin and Mike VanGenderen, who had started side-by-side in row five, came calling. Gustin made his way around Bushore and into the lead. Not to be outdone, VanGenderen also got around Bushore and began hunting down Gustin. It wasn’t to be on this night however, as Gustin took the win. Andersen aces Eagle Modified main

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (May 7) – Chad Andersen got the lead back with eight laps to go in winning Saturday’s Kaplan University IMCA Modified main event at Eagle Raceway. He was chased to the checkers by Dustin Andersen, Anthony Roth and Shane Hiatt. “I haven’t had that much fun racing in a long time. Dustin and I don’t get to start on the front row together very often. It was awesome racing with him like that,” Andersen said. “When he passed me I knew that whoever got out front and got to the top first was going to get the win.” After a complete restart, Mark Leiting checked out on the rest of the NAPA IMCA Northern SportMod feature field. Bell, VanDusen ring up CJ Speedway wins

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (May 6) – CJ Speedway got back to action on Friday and Adam Bell scored the win in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature while Cody VanDusen topped the field in the Mach-1 Sport Compacts. Dane Fenton and Bell made up the front row for the Stock Car start. Bell edged Fenton at the line to lead lap one with Tad Payne and John Oliver Jr. battling for third. A couple laps later, Oliver moved into the runner-spot and pressured Bell for the lead. Oliver tried to get under Bell until midway through the race when he pulled off with mechanical troubles. This moved Kirk Kinsley, who recovered from a first-lap crash, to second spot. Kinsley tried everything to get the lead away from Bell, but Bell was able to hold him off to pick up his first win of the season at the track. Kinsley settled for second and Payne was third.
