Holladay tops IMCA Late Model opener at West Liberty

By Jerry Mackey WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (April 23) – The 2016 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season got underway Saturday night at West Liberty Raceway. The track was extremely fast on a nice night for the opening night racing action. Chad Holladay served notice to his fellow iWireless IMCA Late Model competitors that he is going to be a contender for the West Liberty Raceway 2016 track championship. Holladay advanced from his third row start to overtake race leader Rob Toland on lap 15 en route to the 25-lap feature win. Toland crossed the finish line in second ahead of Andy Eckrich. Dakota Hayden found the high line to be very fast around the big half-mile. Hayden topped the very tough Performance Concepts IMCA Modified division with the 20-lap feature win. Traskowsky Times Two for Feature Wins at Salina Speedway

By Dusty Wiegert SALINA, Kan. (April 22) – Three new IMCA feature winners visited the O’Reilly Auto Parts Victory Lane for the first time in the early season on Friday at Salina Speedway. The night was presented by B Strong Running Company of Salina. Of those winners, two were father and son, something that doesn’t happen often at all on the same night. First was Fred Traskowsky, who pulled out to the lead from the front row at the start of the M&H Motors IMCA Northern SportMod feature. He held off a resurgent Tyler Watts to capture his first win of the season. Watts finished second with Chris Humphries and Tim Echevarria rounding out the top four. No repeat winners in second week at Off Road

By Randy Pospishil NORFOLK, Neb. (April 23) – A second night of racing at Off Road Speedway produced four first-time IMCA feature winners. The list of winners from Saturday night’s four sanctioned divisions, along with the first session of IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, consisted of different names, suggesting that the level of competition at the track is wide open and the standings will see continued movement each week of the season. Tiffany Bittner came out on top in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature, winning what became a highly competitive four-car battle with Tracy Buck, TeJay Mielke and Nate DeSive. Eventually, just as Bittner and Mielke were pulling away from the field, a caution and restart with three laps left brought the pack of four together again to finish the race. Yarie now two for two at Shawano

(April 23) – Another stellar car count of 124 cars signed in to do battle Saturday at Shawano Speedway and Marcus Yarie stayed consistent, winning his second Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature in a row. Clint Forstner led the opening lap of the Modified main. Lance Arneson made a three-wide pass to second on lap two. On lap four Arneson went to the outside of Forstner to take the top spot away. By lap five, Yarie had worked his way up to second place and began to reel in Arneson. Lap 12 saw Yarie go to the outside in turns three and four and take the lead by a bumper at the line. Yarie led the rest of the way for the win with Arneson on his rear bumper. Jerry Wilinski made a late pass of Jaimie Schmidt to finish in third. Benji LaCrosse crossed the line in fifth. Morris family doubles up at Davenport

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (April 22) – Davenport Speedway celebrated the Koehler Electric Season Opener Friday night. For one family in attendance, victory lane celebrations started to look like a family reunion. Mitch Morris and Jake Morris had identical nights at Davenport Speedway, although in two separate classes. Mitch (IMCA Modified) and Jake (IMCA Northern SportMod) each won their respective heat races. Each started their feature on the outside pole, led every lap and won the features, which were run back-to-back. Rob Toland led flag-to-flag for the win in the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature. Toland set a blistering pace that no one was able to follow. Brunson Behning finished a distant second followed by Luke Goedert. Matt Ryan and Jay Chenoweth rounded out the top five. Marshalltown checkers fly for Lauritzen

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (April 22) – It was night number two of points racing at Marshalltown Speedway on Friday and the on-track action was nothing short of spectacular. Ronn Lauritzen took the win in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature and while he had breathing room at the finish line, the racing behind him was a shootout to the finish. Lauritzen started sixth and got around early leaders Jon Snyder and Jake Strayer by lap eight. He set sail on the top of turns three and four, then dove low in turn one, keeping his momentum the rest of the way to the checkers. Tim Ward, with a last-second effort, took the runner-up spot, after starting ninth. Brian Irvine started eleventh and took third, while Strayer and Snyder completed the top five. Bruening scores season opening win at Farley

By Jerry Mackey FARLEY, Iowa (April 22) – The 2016 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing season opener at Farley Speedway was held on Friday night with the drivers putting on a very entertaining night of races on an extremely fast racing surface. When the final checkered flag of the night flew at just past 10 p.m. it was defending track champion Tyler Bruening taking the opening night win in the very tough Out Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Model Feature. Bruening chased down race leader Jon Merfeld and made the winning move on lap 17 of the 25-lap feature. Mark Schulte drove to the opening night win in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds.
