Droste nips Goedert for win at Dubuque

By Jerry Mackey DUBUQUE, Iowa (June 5) – The Out Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Model feature thrilled the fans with plenty of exciting wheel to wheel action Sunday at Dubuque Speedway. Luke Goedert took the lead from early race leader Jerry King and appeared to be on his way to his first local win of 2016 but Tyler Droste had other ideas. Droste took the green in the 10th position and steadily worked his way to the front in the 25-lap feature that ran caution-free. Droste used both the high line and the extreme low side on his way to the front. Droste led the field under the white flag and then lapped traffic was a factor on the last circuit. Goedert ran the high line in turn four and Droste dove low and was able to get to the checkers taking the win by a mere couple of feet. Hurlbut takes Sport Compact top prize at CJ Speedway

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (June 3) – Richard Hurlbut was the $250 Mach-1 Sport Compact feature winner on CJ Speedway’s Economart $5 Fan Appreciation Night at the races. Josh Mosier and Hurlbut drew front row spots for the evening’s 14-lap finale. Hurlbut grabbed the over Mosier and Cody VanDusen, who started sixth. While Hurlbut set the pace out front, Mosier and VanDusen swapped the runner-up spot back and forth over the entire 14 laps. As Hurlbut held on to capture his first win of the season at the track, VanDusen took the second spot for good. Mosier was third. Travis Finke and Blaine Dopler led the field to the drop of the green flag in the 16-lap Kauffman Electric IMCA Stock Car feature, with Dopler out front over Finke and Billy Faler. Mullen captures Red Race at 141 Speedway

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (June 3) – Brian Mullen had to wait seven days to pick up his first feature win of the season at 141 Speedway in the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds. It was well worth the wait as he took home the top prize of $1,000 for the Red race win. Jay Matthias rocketed from his front row starting spot and looked early to be the man to beat until he caught lapped traffic. Matthias had to slow, which allowed Mullen to play catch up. Mullen reeled in Mathias and used a power move down low to grab the lead for good off turn four. Mullen held off a late charge from Matthias to take home the win. Benji LaCrosse moved to third late over Tyler Wilson. Russ Reinwald finished fifth. Mullen’s win earned him a spot on the ballot for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Springstroh scores first at Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. (June 3) – Travis Springstroh earned his Jim’s Auto Repair IMCA Stock Car career first feature win Friday at Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway. Springstroh sat on the pole and was followed early by Steve Hiles and Derek Schrauth. Aaron Stolp, Joe White, Greg Wichman and Travis Van Straten battled for position through the first 10 lap. Springstroh was able to pull away from the field and by the time Van Straten was able to break from the pack into second place, he had ran out of laps to catch the leader. Springstroh has run the tough division since 2013 and clinched his first win ahead of the defending national champion, Hiles, Stolp and David Hoerning. The Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modifieds took the green with Tony Wedelstadt taking the top spot followed by Craig Priewe, Shawn Frelick, Mike Klenz, Adam Reed and R.C. Whitwell behind. By Dru Brown BILLINGS, Mont. (June 4) – A strong run from start to finish put Travis Davis in Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified victory lane Saturday at Billings Motorsports Park. Davis rocketed to the top spot at the drop of the green while Beau Nave was quickly in second with Jeremy Meirhofer in third, moving to the bottom line to try to make things happen. Hank Berry started all the way back in the 10th position but that hardly slowed him down. Berry challenging Nave for second and eventually wrestled it away. Another yellow flag halted the action, and on this restart Meirhofer again stuck his car to the bottom lane but to no avail. Berry was sizing up Travis Davis in every corner, but the laps were quickly ticking away. He finally got a run on Davis but lapped traffic caused Berry to slam on the brakes and Davis flew by again. (June 4) – Daylon Bergeron outdueled Mike Roach for IMCA SportMod honors Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park, while Angel Munoz posted his first local win of the year in IMCA Sunoco Stock Car action and Matt O’Hair made a late move to take his second IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock win of the year. After leading the opening 16 rounds, Bergeron bested Roach over the closing circuits to capture his first Dodge City SportMod win. Bursting into the lead from the pole position, Bergeron cruised out front until Roach battled his way past Slade Roach to take over second just past midway. Following a caution with seven laps to go, Roach put the pressure on Bergeron and finally slipped under to take command on the 17th lap after splitting a lapped car on the backstretch. Logue, Schmidt among Boone feature wins

BOONE, Iowa (June 4) – John Logue put his ride back in victory lane following the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature for the second time in a row Saturday at Boone Speedway while Jay Schmidt scored another victory in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car ranks. Logue started seventh and had his familiar number 69 in the lead by lap eight of the 20-lap Modified feature. He never relinquished that lead on his way to the checkers and the win. Thornton, Wollam score first Marshalltown wins

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 3)– Two drivers, Ricky Thornton Jr. in the Xtreme Motor Sports Modified division and Jeff Wollam in IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, scored first wins of the 2016 season at the Marshalltown Speedway on Friday night. Thornton, the Chandler, Ariz., driver who is calling Iowa home for the summer, made his presence known in the 20-lap Modified feature. He started 13th and grabbed the lead away from last week’s winner Eric Elliott on lap nine. From there on, Thornton took his ride to the top side and never looked back on his way to the checkers.
