World class purse paid at Sept. 5-10 Super Nationals

BOONE, Iowa – Super might not be adjective enough to describe the purse shares and contingency awards drivers competing at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s will earn over the course of the 34th annual event. When 800-plus drivers from coast to coast and border to border exit Boone Speedway, they’ll have earned shares of an approximate $285,000. Tech inspection precedes Sunday practice, tailgating

BOONE, Iowa – There will be plenty to see, do and enjoy on the Boone Speedway grounds even before opening night of the 34th annual IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. The tech inspection process introduced in 2014 and well-received again last year will be continued. Beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, Hobby Stock, Northern SportMod and Southern SportMod drivers are encouraged to go to the lineup board behind the pitside grandstand and get their inspection sheets and hardcards as soon as they arrive with their race car. Drivers will be called over the PA system for staging and then sent to the inspection area in groups of 20. Pre-tech for those three divisions runs from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. A $10 pit pass fee will be refunded to everyone who exits the pit area by 4:30 p.m. An open practice session for all divisions is from 5-7 p.m. and has a $10 admission for those who did not purchase a pit pass. HARLAN, Iowa – Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Late Models headline Shelby County Speedway’s Saturday, Aug. 27 Tiny Lund Memorial, running in $1,000 to win features. The Modified feature is a qualifier for the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Zap zips to first Laurel Highlands checkers

(Aug. 20) – The story of the night had to have been the popular win of veteran Joe Zap, who led all 20 laps of the green to checkers main event when the Laurel Highlands IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars traveled to Hesston Five Star Speedway. Zap and Ron Aurand brought the field to green with Zap charging into the lead followed by Aurand, Greg Dobrosky and Scott Lutz with Reed Thompson and Drew Ritchey in hot pursuit. Aurand gave chase all the time as he stayed close to Zap but was not able to reel him in. Race number two of the racing weekend scheduled for Bedford Speedway on Sunday, Aug. 21 was canceled due to rain. BRAINERD, Minn. – A pair of Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying features are on the 15th annual Mighty Axe Nationals program this weekend at North Central Speedway. Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds race for $1,000 to win Friday, Aug. 26 and a minimum of $1,000 to win on Saturday, Aug. 27; an additional $200 will be paid if the winner competed on opening night. Kansas Thunder Series crowns champions

By Mike Hughes STOCKTON, Kan. (Aug. 20)—The Kansas Thunder Series closed out the 2016 season at the series finale at Elmwood Park Speedway Saturday, crowning champions in its four divisions. The Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified series championship was up for grabs as Mike Petersilie and Clay Money were tied for the top spot. Don Geist jumped out to the lead in the main event with Tyler Frye right behind. Geist continued to lead at the halfway mark in the 15-lap race with Frye and Jesse Richter close behind. Richter shot to the lead on lap nine but Frye got past on lap 12. Richter retook the top spot and held on for the win, followed closely by Frye and Geist. A solid field of 19 drivers took the green flag in the IMCA Late Model 25-lapper, which saw Tyler Bruening shoot ahead from his front row start. Bruening was pressured by Luke Goedert before being able to pull out to a comfortable lead late in the main event. Bruening ran the momentum line at the top of the smooth track in scoring the win, which carried a $200 bonus courtesy of Cal Co Spray Coatings and Cedar Cross Service of Dubuque. Goedert finished second ahead of Jeremiah Hurst. The Merfeld Brothers IMCA Modified feature was an outstanding race with several lead changes throughout the 20-lap event. John Corell topped the 25-car Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature field after taking the lead in the closing laps. The $2,000 checkers put the North Dakota veteran on the ballot for the 2017 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Austin Arneson, winner of the first two Sanders Mod Tour events, started on the pole for the 35-lap feature with Ryan Mikkelson to his outside. Arneson got the jump on Mikkelson as the green flag flew and grabbed the opening lead as Mikkelson, Michael Johnson, and Hunter Marriott fought for second.
