Taylor travels to Dixieland for VA Sprint Series victory

(June 9) – New Jersey hotshot Jeff Taylor travels the country running his IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car and you never know where he may show up next … this week it was the winner’s circle when the Virginia Sprint Series traveled to Dixieland Speedway. Taylor had the lead from the initial green in the first Fast Friday Feature of the season and was a car length ahead of Daren Bola at the checkers. Mike Leraas, Jerald Harris and Brian Lawson rounded out the top five. Anthony Linkenhoker and Taylor paced the field early with Taylor showing the top side was the place to be. He made laps up top with Leraas in tow and Bolac charging toward the front. Lamberies takes victory at Davenport’s SportMod Challenge

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 9) – Lucas Lamberies made the long haul to the Davenport Speedway from his home in Clintonville, Wis., pay off with the $2,000 win in Friday’s Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod Challenge. Lamberies started on the front row of the 50-lap feature, outside defending race winner Tony Olson. Olson led the first 38 laps before Lamberies used a higher line to get around and over the front spot. A couple laps later, Curtis VanDerWal also passed Olson for second. On the final circuit, VanDerWal tried a slide job for the lead but got up into some loose dirt in turn two and Lamberies came back down the track and regained the lead and the win. VanDerWal finished second, with Olson third. Gage Neal and Rick Wages completed the top five. Cooney’s bounty remains, Duffy, Murty and Anderson go back to back

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 9) – Todd Cooney had a bounty on his head in Friday’s IMCA Late Model feature at Marshalltown Speedway. At the end of the night, that $400 bounty still stood. Cooney started in row four, flew to the top of the track and quickly reeled in cars. By lap five, he was leading, and from there on never looked back. Joe Zrostlik led the first four laps and chased Cooney the rest of the way to take second. Third went to Paul Nagle, Darrel DeFrance was fourth and Greg Kastli took fifth. Shannon Anderson won for the fifth time locally in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks while Damon Murty scored his third straight IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers. Doug Smith’s Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod victory was his third of 2017 at Marshalltown and Darin Duffy repeated in the IMCA Modified main event. Kay ends test drive in Farley’s victory lane

By Jerry Mackey FARLEY, Iowa (June 9) – Friday was a beautiful night for stock car racing at the all-new Farley Speedway. The GSI Collision Specialists IMCA Modifieds were the featured division with their 20-lap feature bringing the final checkered flag of the night. Justin Kay had worked on Richie Gustin’s no. 19G car in his Wheatland shop all day and decided with Gustin’s permission to take the Modified to Farley and test the changes made. The changes adapted well as Kay chased down race leader Matt Gansen and made the pass for the lead as the race passed the midway point. Kay went on to take the checkers ahead of Gansen and Austin Moyer. Jon Merfeld was the beneficiary of a blown right rear tire on Out-Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Model feature race leader Joel Callahan. Hamilton County Speedway hosts June 13 Mid Iowa Topless

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa – IMCA Modifieds and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods run without roofs at Hamilton County Speedway’s aptly named Mid Iowa Topless 50 on Tuesday, June 13. Modifieds race for $2,000 to win their 50-lap Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. Northern SportMods go 35 laps and chase a top check of $1,000. Twenty-six Modifieds will qualify for the starting grid with the top two non-qualifiers based on track standings completing the field. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded in both divisions, as will Side Biter Chassis North Central Region points for the Modifieds. Local track points will not be given. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. with racing to follow. Harris hauls to victory lane at Shenandoah

By Jim Haines SHENANDOAH, Va. (June 3) – There was no catching Jerald Harris once he moved to the front of Saturday’s Virginia Sprint Series feature field at Shenandoah Speedway. The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car win was his second this season at the paved speedway and came in front of Mike Leraas and Ryan Price. Mike Keeton took over the lead on lap three; Harris got by Bill Rice and began to close on the leader, finally finding his way to the front on lap 10. Leraas got to second after a restart. The top three were close as the laps clicked off and as the white flag waved, Leraas made a last corner charge but came up short by a car length. Feature results – 1. Jerald Harris; 2. Deery Series, Arnold Motor Supply Hawkeye Dirt Tour at West Liberty for June 13 doubleheader

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa – Another doubleheader for two premier IMCA series is on tap next Tuesday, June 13 at West Liberty Raceway. The Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models makes its second visit of the season to West Liberty for a $2,000 to win, minimum $300 to start event while IMCA Modifieds following the Arnold Motor Supply Hawkeye Dirt Tour run for $1,000 to win and a minimum of $150 to start. Spectator admission is $16 for adults, $14 for seniors 62 and over, $10 for students ages 13-17 and free for kids 12 and under. Pit passes are $30. Disqualification leads to Kay’s career 22nd Deery Series win

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 6) – Justin Kay won for the 22nd time in his Deery Brothers Summer Series career Tuesday night at Marshalltown Speedway. The victory came in unique fashion for Kay, who was awarded the top spot when apparent winner Jeremiah Hurst was disqualified in post-race tech after a failed rear end inspection. John Emerson became runner-up and IMCA Late Model tour point leader Jesse Sobbing was third after starting 15th. Jeff Aikey and Jake Neal completed the top five. Neal had led the first half of the 50-lapper before giving way to Hurst. The last caution of the race came on lap 48.
