Eckrich, VanDenBerg, Bell, Benischek score CJ wins

By Jerry Mackey COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (July 3) – After a two week hiatus due to weather cancellations, racing returned to the CJ Speedway with an outstanding night of racing which saw 80 cars pack the infield. The grand finale of the night that saw everything that a race track could offer was the IMCA Modified main event. Twenty drivers took the green flag and veteran Steve Johnson ran out front until Jeff Larson was able to wrestle the lead away. Front row starter Denny Eckrich ran in the lead pack the entire race, found the perfectly prepared track to his liking and made a late-race charge to take the lead from Larson as the laps wound down. Another driver on a late race charge was Derrick Stewart. When the checkers flew it was Eckrich taking the win with a slight margin over Stewart and Larson. Becker starts holiday weekend with Sprint win at Dodge City

(July 2) – The Independence Weekend got off to an early start at Dodge City Raceway Park with Brett Becker picking up the $1,000 winner’s share in the Mel Hambelton Ford Racing POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series vs. DCRP Sprint Car Clash. Becker gridded the feature outside the front row but it was 16-year-old pole starter Kyler Johnson gunning into the initial lead of the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car main event. Fourth starting Jake Bubak handled Becker on lap two to move into the runner-up spot. By lap five Becker found the bottom to his liking, moving back by Bubak and taking the lead one lap later from Johnson. Working through traffic much of the way, Becker fought off a bid from Bubak at the midway point and then had Johnson on his tailtank again after a Bubak miscue on the 16th lap. Red River repeat as Wojtek tops IMCA Modifieds at Waco

WACO, Texas (July 3) – Same story, different track. For the second time in as many nights, Fred Wojtek started on the pole and led all 25 laps in winning a Red River South Tour feature for IMCA Modifieds, earning $1,000 for his Friday green to checkered run at Heart O’ Texas Speedway. “It’s crazy that I drew the one again,” said Wojtek, the Thursday winner at Grayson County Speedway. “I didn’t believe I could do that.” After nearly getting collected by a lapped car halfway through, Wojtek stuck to the bottom line and held off a late challenge from Cody Leonard, then focused on hitting his marks the last two times around the track. Shute dominates Ron Little Memorial on record night at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (July 2) – Todd Shute was in command from start to finish, during a record setting Ron Little Memorial at Stuart Speedway. Shute led all 35 laps of the IMCA Modified feature, working through lapped traffic before a late restart. He held off Cayden Carter in the final circuits for the $2,055 payday. Tom Berry Jr., Jeff Aikey and Nick Roberts completed the top five. Shute and Cory Sauerman were up front for the start of the 21st annual event. Shute took command early with Roberts and Ethan Braaksma in tow, then dominated through lapped traffic until a caution brought the field to a halt with six laps to go. Wojtek rings up IMCA Modified win In Red River Tour show at Bells

BELLS, Texas (July 2) – Fred Wojtek felt right at home Thursday night, on a track he’d only raced at once before. Wojtek started on the pole and led start to finish in the Red River South Tour feature for IMCA Modifieds at Grayson County Speedway. He earned $1,000 and a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth for the victory, which came ahead of Chris Elliott and 12th starting Cody Leonard. “I watched a couple races before and set up the car for the bottom. I had a feeling Chris would run the top. That’s where he won the tour race a couple years ago,” explained Wojtek, who’d run fifth that night, in his one previous outing at Bells. Gould inherits opening night Red River Tour win

ARDMORE, Okla. (July 1) – It’s not the way he wanted to win but William Gould went home with the $1,000 IMCA Modified checkers from Wednesday’s Red River South Tour opener at Southern Oklahoma Speedway. Gould was third across the stripe but inherited the win when Tyler Stevens and Chaz Baca were both disqualified in post-race tech for front suspension violations. Gould had gotten caught up in a fender bender in his heat race, won his ‘B’ feature and started the main event from 11th. “This was the first time we’ve even had a good run in the tour. It seems like we’ve always had motor problems or something before,” said Gould, who changed two flats on the trailer and got home about the time the sun was coming up the next morning. “The top of the track stayed dominant. Off Road hosts Wednesday Don Weyrich Classic

(July 1) – There was plenty of action on the track during the Don Weyrich Classic on Wednesday night at Off Road Speedway, an event held to honor Norfolk’s long-time driver and member of the Nebraska Auto Racing Hall of Fame. Three of the feature winners started in the front row and won handily, among them the father and son combination of Jason (IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks) and Cameron Wilkinson (IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars) and Brian Osantoski (Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods) while Cory Dumpert checked out on his IMCA Sunoco Late Model foes. Off Road Speedway will not hold races on Saturday, but will return to action on July 11.

Braaten wins third straight at Yreka

(June 27) – The Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod division at Siskiyou Golden Speedway has been the realm of Jorddon Braaten in 2020 and such was again the case Saturday night. The Central Point, Ore., chauffeur won his third straight race of the campaign at Yreka. Medford, Ore., racers Mike Medel and Merissa Henson were second and third, respectively. Siskiyou Golden Speedway returns for a doubleheader Independence Day weekend presented by Hoppes Motorsports. Friday, July 3 will feature IMCA Modifieds and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods, while Saturday, Independence Day, has sanctioned SportMods on the ticket.

Two nights of racing this weekend at U.S. 36 Raceway

OSBORN, Mo. – Two big nights of racing are set for this weekend at U.S. 36 Raceway. This Friday, July 3, is the Budweiser Shootout. After two postponements, U.S. 36 has remained persistent in completing the Bud Shootout. The Sprint Series of Nebraska is once again prepared to make its first appearance of the season at U.S. 36 that evening. As part of the event, heat race bonuses are on the line for the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars. Winners will receive a $75 bonus. Second in the heats earn a $50 bonus with third picking up a $25 bonus. To complete the show, the IMCA Modifieds and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods will also battle it out on the high banks.
